    Small integrated amp for 600 S3 speakers?

    I'm looking for any suggestions.

    My brother wants to buy a pair of B&W 686 (small bookshelf) speakers. He is going to use them on his desk along with his laptop. However, before buying them he asked me if there are any small integrated amps to power them. Maybe something with 40-50 watts minimal. The amp has to be placed on top of his desk. There is not room anywhere else. So something that has a shallow depth (that's most important) that can sit behind his laptop while he works.

    Any ideas?

    Spirit Sound and Audio Advisor are selling the Cambridge Audio 540 A for $300.
    Don't know about your required footpront, but that is a heck of a deal, IMHO.

    Also, have you checked with the member/sponsor here who owns the Audio Shed? He sells CA and may have something to fit your requirment. FWIW

      Thanks Bill, but actually.. after emulating his desk space, 12" is too deep. Can you think of anything with a more narrow depth? Standard 17"ish width is fine. Height doesn't matter, but depth can't be that long.

          Well one of the amps I carry (Atoll) is 12" from knob to end of binding post, the chassis is 10 1/2". 50W into 8 ohms.

            That Nuforce Icon looks nice.. but it's only 12 watts. Is that a class D amp? 12 watts seem too low. No?

            Greg, what amp are you talking about?

              Musical Fidelity X series. Its 300 deep but he could put it at 90 degrees. Going second hand he could do worse than the old Naits that had similar dimensions.
              Mac 8gb SSD Audirvana ->Weiss INT202 firewire interface ->Naim DAC & XPS2 DR->Conrad Johnson CT5 & LP70S-> Vivid B1s. Nordost Valhalla cables & resonance management. (Still waiting for Paul Hynes PS:M)

                    FINALLY got my BoseBuster sequel done and written up!! I've shortened the name to BBV2 so I don't get any hassle from Bose. Next I'll be finishing the Scan Disco TM and MTM, the other flavors after. My Soma Sonus site is now hosting my projects. Here is copy of that page:

                    Hey guys, I thought I'd share this with you. I have been helping a friend of mine build up a studio. We both agreed that the cost of a professional studio desk was not worth it. The majority I have seen cost between $1500-3000! I figured that money would be better spent on more audio gear, so I...

                    So I went in the local pc store the other day picking up the last of my hardware and they were putting together a pc that seemed a lot smaller than micro-atx form factor. I inquired and it was a mini-itx unit.

                    New to me.

                    What's mini-itx? well if you look a couple of posts...
