The selections are few for standard definition (DVD) content. High definition (BD) content is seeing a more rapid rise and stronger support of native 7.1 soundtracks. Currently there are 51 such titles."Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today."- Bottom

Limited if there was no choice at all. Thankfully that is not the case.Originally posted by wettouOf course Classé SSP-800 has neither so the choices are limited!:B

I meant that you don't have the option to choose between Prologic IIx and THX Neural that would have been nice.Originally posted by RebelManDPLIIx is the choice (or not). :W The inclusion of THX and/or Logic7 would have been superfluous.
But I understand Classé wanted to take the minimalist approach, to many choices lead to confusion, keep it simple "You can have all the colors you want as long as it is black" Ford and look where they are now!
I like to have choices, same in food I like Japanese and Chinese food many many choices, I am not a meat and potatoes kind of guy
I sure hope that the sound will make up for the massive lack of features, otherwise I will spend my money else where, I love the look so it would be unfortunate.

Large rear speakers that matches your large fronts improves your multi-channel music experience significantly when listening to 5.1 96KHz PCMs -- all speakers better be of the same type, size and distance from your ears.
I have 803Ds, HTM2D as fronts and N803s as rears... The rears stand on 12cms pine blocks to put rear midranges and tweeters on the same height as my fronts.
My amp is bridged so that all speakers get 300W at 8 ohm. I try to keep all cables the same, except for the speaker cables to my rears for economical reasons. Because of the length of rear cables cost will skyrocket if I choose to use 5m Gibraltar2 cables... 5m is still too short and I will buy cheaper cables that have a low gauge, but not with as high quality copper as Gibraltar2. I may upgrade to Kimber 4CT or 8CT.
The goal is to keep all channels as similar as possible. For movies, it’s another story and I am not walking the Home ThMiyuki

Yes, I could not agree more five B&W802 (three 802D in front and two 802N in back) great SACD DSD multichannel music :T and outstanding for movies. :BOriginally posted by MiyukiLarge rear speakers that matches your large fronts improves your multi-channel music experience significantly when listening to 5.1 96KHz PCMs -- all speakers better be of the same type, size and distance from your ears. Wow, what a great problem to have! Your front three is most impressive. In fact, I can't imagine how you can improve it unless you went 7 channels of Nautilus (as supposedly Steve Ballmer has) or replace the HTM1D with another 800D, though that of course, causes a lot of new problems! :BOriginally posted by Marco LisiHi all
Last weekend I was testing the new Marantz AV8003 + MM8300 combo on my 7.1 system. This was the first time that I could hear the system in full force since the 800D has arrived. I'm still waiting on my personal pro + amplifiers to be delivered.
The front end sound was superb, but I sometimes had the idea that the rears (DS8S + SMCS) couldn't keep up with the dynamics of the 800's and HTM1D.
Upgrading the rear speakers would cost in terms of "bigger" speakers and "bigger' poweramps...
Would I (sonicly) benefit from upgrading the SMCS speakers to say a pair of 803D or even better 802D? What is your experience, advise?
Greetings
:T
Your surround set-up looks great, though I can see how you might find the DS8S + SMCS somewhat mismatched with your 800Ds and HTM1D. I think full-range speakers in the surrounds would definitely be an improvement, but I think also, if you can swing it, to try to get at least 803Ds. As you probably know, the diamond tweeter makes a huge difference, so much so that I consider the "D" speakers as almost a separate series from the "S".
Myself, I also initially wanted to get full-range speakers as surrounds, most likely the 804Ss because of budget, but because of how the living room furniture in my new house turned out, I had to opt for a pair of 805S. Basically I ended up buying a custom circular sofa that stretches across the width of my living room. While the curve allowed placement of the 804Ss in the corners, the woofers would fire directly into the leather of my sofa...very bad. So I had to "settle" for a pair of 805S on stands, and having demoed them, I quite like them, and coupled with a good subwoofer, I don't think it will be too lacking.
As I noticed your original post was from some months ago, have you any updates on what you decided?- Bottom

by goe2112I'm looking into purchasing surround wall mounted speakers to complement my N804's and NHTM2 speakers. I'm not interested in investing into the SMCS rear speakers. My system will only be a 5.1 set-up . I checked the internet and from what I saw both models are approx. $450 each.
