Am I missing something by pairing Arcam with B&W 600 series?

    Hello everyone,

I am trying to decide on a new receiver for my B&W speakers. I have an opportunity to pick up an Arcam AVR 280 new for half of list in Canada. Now I know the sound will be stunning but I can't help but wonder if I will be missing anything by not having acess to the new HD audio codecs. I have yet to hear them and wonder whether or not I would know the difference.

What I'm looking for, at least what I believe I am, is good sound for music and movies. I sometimes find it hard not to get caught up in the next big thing with this hobby.

Any insight would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Cates

If your Blu-Ray or HD-DVD ( ) Player does all the decoding and sends out 7.1/5.1 PCM then just do that, provided the Arcam can recieve PCM over HDMI.

I have a Denon 2808 which has DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD etc etc but my PS3 does all the decoding and just sends PCM out to Denon.
