    A choice??

I have enough money for a pair of b&w 703s, or for a little less I could have Matrix 801 series 3 and matrix 802 series 2 as rear or the other way round?? Is the matrix 801 any good?? They look good, but like my wife, looks can fool!! :T

I´m thinking of buying a pair of 703s just for music along with my asw750 sub, and keep the 2 pair of 602s3 for surround sound!

The price for both bairs of Matrix is around $3000 ish!! They are like new!!

So if anyone has heard them or owns a pair, then I would love to hear from you!! :T

A friend of mine has M801 S3's. They are very nice speakers although I'd say that the tweeters are not as smooth as the Nautilus 801's.

Do the Matrix speakers include boxes? If so, try for a lower price and you can play around with them for a while and then get your money back by selling on Audiogon if you don't like them.

Let me get this straight - you can get 801 and 802 together for less than price of 703?
Two pairs (801 and 802) for less than the price of one (703). Doesn't seem right some how.

Can you listen them before you buy them?

If so, listen and compare. If not I'd be tempted to buy the one you can listen to and like.

Matrix Series not Nautilus or Diamond. Big difference in price.

There are no boxes, but they are in mint condition!! The only problem is that I can´t demo them, I have just say yes or no! It´s a friend of a friend who lives far away and wants to do a quick deal! So i want to have an idea of what they sound like compared to the 703s! :T

I have Matrix 801 series 3 and CDM 9NT's. I like the Matrix boxes much better for the music I enjoy: classic and opera mainly.

My installation is for stereo and home cinema. Because of the better quality of the Matrix boxes I use them as only speakers when I listen to stereo and as front speakers together with a HTM 1, and the 9NT's as Surround speakers.

How are they being shipped to you? Will you be picking them up? If not, the boxes will be an issue.

If I´m going to buy them, then I will go with my friend to pick them up so that there will be no problems with transport! I´ll take 80m of the thick bubble rap from work and some blankets from home, so transport will not be a problem. :T

My biggest problem is that I don´t know what they sound like compaired to the 703, but from th reviews I´ve read so far, the 801 matrix series 3 is a very very nice speaker for what it is??

Is the bass tight and do they give a big wide sound stage/image?? :T

bass: The bass is a bit less tight than that of the 9NT's, but seems to me much more natural: easy going. If I am listening to - let's say - a contrabass or a bass saxophon it is just pure enjoying. That's equally true for e.g. piano music, singing, ...

Of course you know the review of the Matrix 801 series 2 in 'Stereophile' (free on the internet-website of Stereophile. I have a pair of that speakers, too. They are less tight in the bass than the series 3 speakers.

sound stage: The sound stage is good, but it could be that more recent speakers are better in that.

What's also very nice with the 801's is that you can move the tweeterpart apart from the rest.

Probably important: in my home the 801's are screwed to stands, so that the box starts 30 cm above the floor and has some air around them.

Main thing is that the balance of the sound is very good, that they sound is relaxed, whereas the 9NT's are more 'biting speakers', they can in my opinion sound a bit 'forced'.

If the price of the 801 is good I would buy them, because you could sell them without any or probably a bit loss if you don't want to keep them.

North Creek crossover upgrade for B&W Matrix 801/802

Does anyone have any experience with North Creek's crossover upgrade for the Matrix 801? Worth it?

                      Thanks!

                      Hi everybody!

As many of you, the Matrix 801 were a dream from the very beginning, when falling into Hi-Fi clutches. Years have passed and finally I could bought a pair of 801 Series II second handed (white ones), while now I also got another pair of 801 (black ones), but in Series III....

                      Tighten topbox on Matrix 801?
                      by Joawen
I just discovered that the boxes with mid/tweeter on my Matrix 801 series3 are loose, on my 802's it's possible to angle them in/out but they are really tight back/forward, up/down.

How are the boxes on top fastenend, is there a way to tighten up the thing holding the boxes so it moves...

                      Bass - Matrix 801 S3 vs 802D
                      by Josh
I am considering upgrading my Matrix 801s with a pair of 802Ds. My question is how is the overall bass extension and response compared to the Matrix 801s? I have heard the 800Ds and are ideally what I would like for this particular setup, however this is my secondary system in my bedroom and the room...

Many non B&W lovers really have NO idea just what a great speaker they were.
I cut the Zobel capacitor in mine, and relocated a couple crossover inductors.
I have the B&W "Van Alstine mod sheet" for the Matrix 801 series 2's if anyone needs it ?
