I LOVE My Old Matrix 801's

Many non B&W lovers really have NO idea just what a great speaker they were.
I cut the Zobel capacitor in mine, and relocated a couple crossover inductors.
I have the B&W "Van Alstine mod sheet" for the Matrix 801 series 2's if anyone needs it ?
Since I have owned the Matrix 801's, 23 pairs of high end speakers have come and gone from my home.
I have some tips on the 801's, if anyone is interested.

I have Matrix 801's, too (series 3 and series 2), and enjoy them very much, so I share your enthousiasm.

I have found that over time, the Kevlar weave in the mid ranges can "bunch up" a bit.
I removed both mid ranges, and carefully "massaged" the Kevlar back into place.
I also tried placing my mid range drivers where they sounded best, and not necessarily the same speaker they came out of.
Same with the woofers.
I wound up with the woofers in the same speakers they came out of.
However, the left midrange sounded better in the right speaker, and vise versa.
I WAS getting a little stridency on some female voices and strings.
It disappeared swapping midrange drivers around.


Also, check the rubber grommetts, they wear out and dry up.
Replace them, and clean all connections.

Check the speaker wire connecting nuts on the back of the speakers.
Be sure they are tight and making a good connection ?
