    CM1 - Connection query

I was reading the SoundStage.com review for the CM1's the other day when I noticed this statement:

“Connection is by way of high-quality binding posts that allow biwiring, which the manual suggests improves resolution of low-frequency detail. Due to their protective caps, the binding posts can accommodate only spade connectors or bare wire. This is a EU safety requirement that forbids the insertion of plugs into binding posts, so if you have banana-plug-terminated speaker cables, you're out of luck. You can always try to pop the safety caps off, but this would have to be done very carefully to avoid damage, if it can be done at all.” Link

This kind of worried me. I have a pair of CM1’s and on getting them back home I nonchalantly popped off the safety caps and plugged in my banana plugs. I just assumed that the caps were dust proofing the connections before use.

I don’t believe I caused any damage when I did this. I was just wondering why it was considered a safety hazard…

I was going to say that like all the B&Ws I own (700, 800 series) they should be easily removed with a pair of pliers with no damage at all. Reading that review he has the 805 so he should be familiar with B&W products and the removal of the "end bits". If you managed to do it without a problem I would assume that the reviewer was just being over cautious.

Not been here for a while so slow to update threads. However, I own a pair of CM1's and managed to easily remove the safety caps at the weekend. It makes cable management a lot easier now!

          B&W CM1/CM2 breaking up
          by HibbardSmith
I have a pair of B&W CM1's sitting atop a pair of CM2 SubWoofers. I got them around 1987. They have always been absolutely wonderful.

Now, however, one of them has started breaking up quite badly at any level above 80 db. It seems okay but with occasional raspiness below this level....

          by steve998
          I everyone.

I currently have 601S3 speakers. I would like to upgrade to either the 685 or CM1 speakers. My local shop is stocking the 685 speakers at £380 and the CM1's at £500.

How much 'better' is the CM1 over the 685? I presume their performance must be similar as...

Safety Reminder- I'm learning the hard way (WARNING, lacerated finger pics)
          by BigguyZ
Ok, so I've already posted this on some sites I'm been more active on lately, but since this was done while working in my shop on some 4CCs I'm in the process of building, I thought it appropriate to post here.

Since we are building these speakers on our own, we are often found using...
