    subwoofer addition help

I have the CDM7NT's and the matching center channel with ceilings for my surrounds, but I haven't had a very good sub to go with my set up, only a low end JBL. I looking for something that will improve the low end for movies. Unfortunately, funds are tight, so I won't be able to get what I would ultimately hope for. Fo now I'm looking for something that will be a few steps up in between, maybe used as well.

Any suggestion on a sub would be appreciated.

If funds are tight definately look at used, although the B&W 6 and 7-series subs almost never come up on ebay or audiogon. If movies are your main preference the entry models from Hsu or SVS are well regarded.

The PV1 is not the cheapest nor does it go the lowest, however it has the cleanest sound of any sub and it will nicely shake the sofa if so desired. It's also the best looking sub in the market.

The PV1 is the best looking sub on the market?!?! To each there own I guess. Looks to much like an inflatable beach ball for my tastes.

Thanks for the suggestions. You're right as far as finding used ASW 600/700s - hard to find. I ended up calling a local B&W dealer in my area and was told I could get a new ASW 600 for $450. So that's what I did. Just right for my budget.

Anyone know if subs also have a break in period as with their other speakers? Anything I should do or avoid in particular?

Just don't play it real loud until the woofer has about 50 hours on it. It takes about that long for the suspension to loosen up and break in. If you can, I'd leave it on for a couple of days all day (exept at night if you want to sleep). That way it won't seem to take as long to break it in.

Thanks for the help. When you say leave it on all day, do meanto just play music though it all day long?

                  Eric,

I set up the sub, but don't hear anyhing when playing music, just for movies. I've adjusted the settings for HT and music. I wonder if I need to change a setting on my receiver? I assumed the sub line out would still work for music. Any ideas?

What receiver is it? Some receivers will only activate the subwoofer output in DD or dts if the front speakers are set to large. Some will let you do a sub and large front speakers. It just depends on the receiver.

That's not a brand I sell so I'm not positive this will work, but it looks like you have to turn on the "double bass" feature. It's in the speaker set up part of the on screen menus.

Thanks Eric. I'll check it out. Also, I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but I can also just play music on "all channel stereo". That's what I did all night last night. By the way, if you have a link or want to email about what you sell, I'll upgrade sometime down the road to something different for receiver. I was thinking of a Rotel 1067 maybe.

Hi, everyone. I'm considering a new project, and I'm looking for input.

                            The Setup:
For nearly three years, my current subwoofer has been satisfying my every desire for plentiful, deep bass, no matter what the program material, yada yada. I'm very happy with it from a performance...

As with a sealed sub, bigger boxes with a lower Q (<= 0.577) I hard are more musicale (tight and less boomy). Can the same thing be said of the...

I've listened to the 604's and the 703's. The 703's sound much better to my ear, however, the 604's are very good. To me, the 604's sound better than the Energy C-9's (a former option).

The 703's seem overpriced when compared to the 604's. Basically, you get two 604's for the price of...

Tight bass for a sub is tight bass, regardless what it's teamed with. So you may even get better responses asking it that way in audio. Getting a broader perspective.

                            Hello everyone...

I am buying Jed's Dynamic 4T and 4CC to be finished late December/early January.

I am looking to build a center channel stand/subwoofer enclosure to use with this.

I will be powering the speakers with an emotiva xpa-5.

                            I bought an...
