    Finally a proud B&W owner/member.....my humble experience.

Glad to say that I'm finally a B&W owner after months and months and months.......etc of saving. Was using old Bose 901s for ~7 years that I inherited from my family.

    703 Towers
    HTM7 Center
    ASW750
    DS7 Surrounds

Since I'm not rich like others on this forum with their 800 series (envious), I thought I would share my experience on my purchase/investment. I have heard a lot of variations on pricing since only select stores carry them. You can learn a lot about the speakers, placement, etc ...ie technical details online but it was hard to have any research info about pricing before dealing with the sales person who sell B&Ws (is it me or do they seem extra arrogant or snobby..I guess it's because they know only they carry them). Anyway after some kind gentle negotiating, I was able to get 15% off the entire order (although paying tax killed me).

Just thought I would post that for any future B&W owners doing research who are looking in like myself before I had the money to afford them. Would be interesting to hear what deals other members received.

Nicky, welcome to the world of B&W. I'm glad you were able to negotiate a deal in spite of their arrogant behavior. You should have told them you generally require sales persons to wear sport jackets. In spite of that, you would try not to let it impact your purchase.

From visiting this forum, you understand our members are from the world over. Where are you located? It would provide greater understanding to how the discount was obtained.

The 700 series are nice speakers. When you get set up you'll have to provide us with a photo.

      Congrats on your purchase!

Welcome nicky! You should be proud to own the 700 series. My first step into B&W territory came with a pair of DM110i almost two decades ago. They would be the equivalent of today's DM602. So don't knock your new 700's!

I purchased the 704s and HTM7 a few days ago. I am still in the market for good in-ceiling speakers for my rears.
I thought I'd share my buying experience. There are about 3 or 4 dealers in my area. The first place I went to, I have to agree with you, they were very snobby. I had to ask for a several times for one of them to be able to play these speakers for me. I do admit I don't look like someone who'd spend a couple of thousand for a pair of speakers but still, they shouldn't be treating their customers like that. When I asked him how much better are B&Ws compared to more conventional speakers like polkaudio or boston acoustics, he said, after a long long sigh, "polks are like honda, BAs are like toyota, and B&Ws are like Ferraris" so I said "then what about even more conventional ones like Sonys or Pannys?" and he goes "they're Daewoos" and I was laughing because he said the above in a very serious, snobby manner.
Anyway, this snob wouldn't give me even a 1% discount so I went to the other dealer. The 2nd dealer was more like a private dealer. The owner himself is a av-phile and also the sales person. I actually had a very pleasant buying experience. When asked for the price, he said "MSRP is X but we'll accept Y" so I went further by saying "can you do Z? if you do, i'll pick them up today" and after some thought, he said "Deal! Z for you my man"
I got them for 16% below MSRP. I also got a great deal on the accessories.

                        A word about "Snob"

If someone is acting like a snob, they are not a snob unless you let them make you feel like they can. Turn the tables, and put them on their toes by asking them "Do you have a problem, offering information to potential clients ?" "Then I would like some straight answers please" You are the client and they are just a salesman, and "they" depend on you. Your the one who should act any way you please.

                          Nicky,

                          Congratulations!!

I took me two years to get a great deal on a used pair of B&W speakers. As for the salesreps I understand completely. I live in Pennsylvania but I travel to New York City to audition speakers. I found that the salesreps in New York can be down right mean if you don't look like Donald Trump. And it's harder when they see a woman. I guess some of them still think this hobby is for men only. I just take my business elsewhere. There are plenty of salesreps out there willing to help.

                          Enjoy the music!!!

                            Welcome Nicky,

Those 700 series will give many years of pleasure and are up there in the top 1% of HT systems... So be proud you save for them and got them... Take the time to set them up to their best - processor settings, speaker placement, perhaps some room treatments (rugs etc) will all tweak your system

Now you can have fun upgrading your electronics
