    600 s3

    Would the 600 s3 provide enough volume for a 20 X 22 X 8 foot room?

If so, what subwoofer would be a good fit?

And finally. What stands would work with such a modest setup?

    Thanks for any help.

What are you planning to do with the 600s3? On a bookshelf system providing background music it's not bad...

But if you are actually going to "listen" to them they sound a little "restricted" and you have increase the subwoofer crossover to "not really acceptable" frequencies because there is not enough base extension on them.

I would suggest for primary speakers you start with 601s3 or bigger... 600 are really designed for surround duty.

Actually 2 channel stereo sound is what I'm really looking for. I listen to mostly classical music and of that mostly orchestral music.

Sounds like I should be looking at the 603 or 604 model. Then I would only need 2 speakers and no subwoofer.

          Hi Stan:
With no subwoofer and use in stereo only then I would personally go with the DM604 S3. TheseDM604's will cover from 39Hz up to 22kHz and can accept from 25W all the way up to 200W @8 ohms. You would have a pretty fine system and also they can do extra duty in the future as "large" FL and FR home theater speakers.

It is fun spending your money BTW...

            ArtyG:

            Thank you.

The 604s3 is a great suggestion.

Don't see many for sale which is a good sign. Also the consumer feedback on Audioreview is just about at the top of the list when considering speakers with a very high rating and a substantial number of reviews.

            Thanks again.

              Stan:
Now you have to trek on over to your "local B&W" dealer and hear these puppies first hand. Some dealers will let you buy them and take them home for a one or two day "listen trial" with the right to return or you can perhaps bring your receiver/amp in to their shop. Let your ears do the decision.

I am in the same boat.... I am thinking of upgrading my Subwoofer and am torn between the ASW600 vs the ASW675 (which is about 2x the cost). I am going to have to listen to these woofers at home and make my decision that way.

I have the 600 S3 and am using them for surround speakers. I also have a large room, not quite as big as yours though. I am presently using 15 year old Mirage 650's as my main front as I was purchasing the rest of my HT set up (ASW 600, LCR 60 and 600 S3 and powering it with an Arcam AVR 200, 46 inch Toshiba DLP - I could only spend so much to get started as I crossed over from Bryston BP 20 pre/Classe 70 amp) and I also listen to two channel stereo for some fine jazz/blues/small scale classical. I on occassion take the 600 S3 off the back wall and place them on top of the Mirage speakers (use as stands using foam table placemats) and play two channel. I am using speaker wire from a company that starts with an "A" that costs as much or more than the speakers I am playing them on. I sit much closer than my normal HT spot and the sound is great except of course the lack of bass, even with the use of the ASW 600 it still does not do the job. But up close they have amazing mid/highs/imaging/soundstage for a speaker in that price range. I have a great dealer here at home, he has allowed me to bring home 705's, 703's, 603's so I have heard what you get when you creep up the food chain. He is good to me knowing that I am eventually getting new main speakers. Of course your up stream electronics also make a huge difference. So I agree with a previous email, with a room the size of yours, I would think of the 603's, personally I would bypass the 604's, my opinion, but if you are paying that kind of money you might want to go into the 700 series. Also, with your room size you might think of moving up a level in subs.

For the money you would be paying, I back KRC , Here here for the 700 series.

Worth the money you are spending ,and a better choice for stereo IMHO ,
unless you get out of the B&W speaker selection!! Floorstanders would be a better choice for stereo, because otherwise you will need a sub.

I would audition other speakers in your budget and see what your ears say!! You might like a different sound to B&W. I personally LOVE B&W especially if you like Jazz and vocals (female in particular).

                  Keep us posted!
                  Cheers

                    Hello all

Just wanted to say that IMHO the 600 series 3 standmount speakers are the best value speakers out there. They may not be the most fashionable speakers out there (I think the drivers look great though) but sound per pound, can they be beaten?

I'm currently contemplating between the 300 (4 x DM303, LCR3, ASW300) and 600 series (2 x 601s3, 2x 600s3, LCR60, ASW600) for movies and I'm starting to think that it may be worth the extra $500 to move up to the 600 series (this would pretty much top out my speaker budget) but I'm concerned that my...

I previously built a seal subwoofer using an Adire Maelstrom driver and Parts Express 250 watt plate amp.

Having moved into a new house, I have a clean "canvas" to build a room to house my hometheater. This will not be a dedicated theater. This will be a family room/theater...
