Should I part with my 804S or not....

I'll be moving soon to smaller place and speakers will have to be in the living room open to 1.5 year old son' to do somthing to them . Right now they are in family room that he normally is not in, but like I said that will change.
I have few options:
get 805S and mount them on wall shelfs,
SCMS, they come with wall brakets,
or keep my 804S, but how can I protect them :M

I've seen someone on the forum mounting 805 all around, here's an idea.

honestly, I have the SCM1's and can say that they would probably make a great speaker for mains in an HT environment.

to me, the htm1 and 804 combo was definately fuller than the 805's though. but still nice.

I feel for you, yourtoys7. I'm in the same dilema as you. My little man is a year and a half old, and it's scary. Teaching him to not touch it was not hard. He knows he can't touch my 805s or the stereo rack next to it, but it's not his curiousity that scares me.

I have two smaller dogs (25lbs Boston Terriers), and he wrestles with them. They play too hard at times, and they literately throw each other all over the house. Already had a few very close calls where one of them fell over right by the stands. I thought about wall-mounting the 805s, but their design isn't exactly the best design for wall-mounting (without damaging the cabinet). I have a pair of B-Tech BT77 stands that are for wall-mounting (I used with my previous 600 series) and tried the clamp on them to see how it will go, but didn't like how that went.

As much as I'd hate to lose my 805s, I can't decide whether it's smarter to change my speakers now, or take a chance that one of them by get knocked down and bammn!!!!..... gone. lol

Maybe not. I got a pair of 804S for my mother. My nephew who is three is often at her home and seems to be oblivious to them. They don't have any obvious attractions for children as long as you leave the grilles on and never take them off especially not in front of the child. There are no exposed holes or things to grab (the tweeter is too high for him). I chose the 804S with my nephew's frequent visits in mind eliminating from consideration any speaker that had exposed ports or had to be mounted on stands. I could just picture him pulling on the speaker wire of a stand mounted speaker with disastrous results or depositing his toys in the port. But the speakers had to sound great, too.

This has became an issue in my house. The 13 months wee monster took a great interest in my standsmount monitors a month ago with the front covers initially and now started pulling the cables at the back. Asked the wise grandad for advise. However, he was more then happy to remind me that in his younger days that wee monster's dad have destroy a large amount of his LPs collection and he have lost count of the amount of needles he have to replace. Patience and the universe will take care of itself. The wee monster will grow up one day and make small monsters too.

the speaker wire I wouldn't worry I just fish them through the wall and under the baseboard, thats what I have at the moment for my rears (all you see is a speaker, no cables).

I face the same situation at home. From the very start of their lives, the kids had it constantly reinforced in them that they do not come near and certainly do not touch the speakers or daddy is gonna be really angry, and that it could fall on them and cause a lot of pain. They stay away. After it became clear that they would stay away, there are occasions when I took the grilles off and emphasized the rule again. They had some questions about what they saw, but continued to stay away still.

True that it's the accidental contacts that are more of a worry, but that also has been reduced to zero now. With constant reminders every time they even come near, they have now been conditioned such that they unconsciously place a no-go zone around the speakers.

Finally, are your speakers on the supplied spikes? If they are, consider replacing them with something more stable. I find SuperSpikes a lot more stable.

Right. From the time they were born, my kids were instructed about the speakers and the other equipment and they never gave me any reason to be disappointed.

In those days, I had big floor-standing speakers which were quite different from today's tall slim ones. There was no chance that any kid (or adult) could easily knock over an Altec A-7, for example. Of course, they could fall into it! I have a great picture of my oldest daughter, in her walker, craning to get her ears into the bass horn so she could hear my radio broadcast. Once, she heard me come home while the (taped) show was on and was thoroughly confused. Guess she thought I was in the box. After all, there was enough room.

Yes, but unfortunately, conscience disobedience isn't always the case.
As I mentioned, my kid is around the same age as his kid, and he already knows not to come around my speakers, but that's not the issue. In the same way that people lose some perception of their environment when drinking, kids get the same when playing. He grabs a toy, my dog locks his jaw to it, he swings around, and slings my dogs across the room. And then my dogs charge him, and knock him down. They're not going to deliberately run into the wall, speakers, etc, but accidents happen, you know.

and that's what I'm talking about a simple accident and ............ When I'm in the family room my son doesn't come to about 2feet of the system, just looking at me and goes: Nooooo, but when my wife with him, he charges for them like you wouldn't believe and loves to round around them and that freaks me out.........

I guess, I'll see how they knew place setup will play for me, I really don't want to let them go. They're not even 6month old :<

Stay with those 804's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you frighten your kid once about touching your speakers, he will think twice about going near them. Also speaking to your kid ,and let him see the speakers when you are around, will show him that they are nothing of interest to him, except for giving sound ,and believe me once their curiosity is saturated ,then they will not go and touch them anymore.
Option 2: Send the Kid to boarding School!!!
Option 3: Barb wire with razor sharp fence around those speakers ,and mine them if possible, Guantanamo -Bay style!! Just kidding!!!
Stay with what you like best, and don't let things get in your way of pleasure!!! So keep the 804's if that makes you happy! Life is too short to compromise on something you love!!! It's all materialistic things anyway!!
