    Preamp for N801's

What kind of preamps have you used with the 800 series B&W's?

I haved N801's and Bryston 7B St's. I am using a tueb preamp and can now hear some hiss from the tube preamp with the Brystons.

I want to go SS. Considering Bryston BP25 but have heard mixed reviews.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    hi chris,

what was the mixed review on the bp25? i was very impressed with it and although i love the seperate power supply on the bp26, i found the sound of the 2 very similar.

being more of a ht listener, i think i will eventually get the sp2

    good luck

      HI DM,
What kind of tube preamp do you have? You know they are not all created equal. My Audio Research SP11 MKII (yes, tubes) is dead quiet even when playing vinyl using a low output moving coil cartridge. The best of the tube pre's I have heard are simply the best, period. The SP11 MkII is among the greatest pre's ever designed. They can be had for around $3000 used. Can you get the best SS preamp for $3000? I don't think so. Check Krell and Levinson prices and you will see what I mean.

I'll not try to move you away from SS. I just want to make the point that it is very hard and usually incorrect to stereotype any given technology. To get the best you must pay the most. Oh well......

Thanks for the info. I have a Juicymusic Peach. It is a very nice unit. I am just sick of tube warm up time, lack of a remote and finding rare tubes (I am using a 1959 Amperex Pinch Waist 6922 and a pair of 1963 PQ's). It just seems that an SS would make life much easier.

          News on Phono Preamp (JC3?)?
          by Craig Simon
I have a JC2 preamp. Any news on when the John Curl designed phono pre-amp will be coming out?

I currently have an Audio Research SP11 Mk2 pre-amp. Can I use the phono section of that pre and feed the output to the JC2? Is it possible to take the feed from the tape monitor out to bypass...

Preamp advice - Rotel, Integra, B&K?
          by boe
I have a lot of feaure requirements that to me don't seem unreasonable but might seem demanding to others. I'm having a very difficult time narrowing down a reaonably priced $1000-$2000 preamp. I would really prefer a black front to match all my other components (plus I prefer my HT as black as possible...

CD Player To PreAmp Connection Options and PreAmp Configuration (sheesh)

Ok so here is the deal, tuning and learning. Never really 100% on what I’m doing setting some parts of my stereo \ home theater up. Would like to set it up optimally and learn something too. In asking these questions I am very aware of a few things
          1. Many or most specs lie.
          2. Good...

          Room Conditioners VS. Regular Preamp
          by JKalman
In a few months I will be buying a preamp and have been considering the Ayre K-1xe. The only conflict I have is possibly buying a preamp that is also a room conditioner like the TacT preamp.

I don't have the greatest space and feel I could benefit from a preamp that can measure the room...

          how important is the preamp
          by tboooe
I was just curious to know how important a preamp is to a high quality stereo only setup? Will getting an expenisve audiophile quality preamp make that much of a difference over a mid-fi preamp? I currently have a parasound p3 preamp and was considering either making a huge step up with either a tube...
