    New member of the club

I have an elderly neighbor whose last audio system was a handmade lash-up from the 1960s with an integrated tube amp and 8" bass reflex speakers, none of which bore a name or much distinction. After that failed and she complained how she missed her music, we took a trip to the local salon where she was shown a system with the Rotel RA-1062 and B&W 604s. It was nice and she liked it. However, she insisted on hearing other speakers, so the salesman switched in a number of them from Boston Acoustics, PSB, B&W and Quad with prices below and above the 604. When he got to the 703, she said, "That's it!" She had no idea of the price but went on and on about the clarity and detail. When she got her quote, she said, "It's ghastly expensive but you only live once!"

Did she audition the 801D? Nice to hear that the 'elderly' do not second-guess performance/price ratios. People tend to be tighter/cheaper as they approach their golden years. Which electronics did she settle on? Cables/ICs (I am sure Kal, that you had some collecting dust she could use). Now, get her to join our little club.

No, I didn't want to scare her. After she chose the 703s, we looked at the 802Ds in order to decide on color.

She stayed with the Rotel. I am letting the store do the delivery/install/cables. I've learned not to do those things unless I want the service business.
