    Speaker placement Advice

I'm considering the CDM1NT's as rear speakers in a 5.1 set up with the fron three in the CDMNT series already. I thought of placing them on a plant shelf behind where we would sit. The speakers would set eight ft high and they would be fourteen ft behind sitting location. This due to no rear wall immediately behind and speakers on stands isn't a p[ossibility with children.

Would this work for rear surrounds or would it be so far away that I would loose the effectiveness of having them?

It's probably not ideal given the magnitude of the distance behind you, but if that is all you can do... You'll want to check to see how much delay you can dial into your processor and make sure you set the levels appropriately.

It should work fine otherwise, often times compromises are needed to combine entertainment with real life

I could go with ceilings. Do you think that would be preferable?

Well, it's been some time since my last post, but I got some great help and I need to go to the well again. I'm struggling with my rear speaker choice/placement. Should I mount Paradigm ADP 470's in the upper corner of the back wall or replace the current low quality speaker (that's already mounted...

I finally got my speakers and while I'm still shopping for a used amp (anybody who spots a marantz 5400, denon 2803 / 1804 or Yamaha RX-V1400 at ~ Cdn$500-700 I appreciate if you can let me know!) I have a dilemma with the placement of speakers in my room.

        Since I don't have a picture...

Confused about best placement for the rear speakers
        by kingpin
So I have read and read and read. There seems to be no agreement as to the proper placement of the rear speakers(bookshelves in my case).

Here is a picture so you can see what I am up to. There is actually about 8' available behind the couch.

I can use any option right now...
