    Speaker Maintenance

Well, I've had my 803D's now for about 6 months and they're due to be rotated so I went ahead and switched the left/right speakers. I'm sure I've probably got about 5,000 listening hours on them by now and I want to make sure they wear evenly. I've been told this is important especially if you listen to similar music over and over. I want to avoid any possibility that they might become unbalanced. They sound exactly the same right now and I want to keep them that way! Preventative maintenance is important you know!!

    :W

    Yes...

and make sure you use a good synthetic oil (Royal Purple for example)...keep everything well lubricated and freely moving...

Also rotate the speaker covers every 100 dvd/cd's - which ever comes first.

Can't believe you guys... I'd just bring them into the dealership and have their
tech guys rotate the speakers for me and rotate the covers.

Do you leave music play all the time ?

Make sure to change the ferrofluid every 5,000 hours as well. And make sure to properly re-torque the binding posts.

When you rotate the speakers, do you rotate the mains into the surround positions and vice versa? What about the center channel? Sub? How about the speaker wires? Should they be rotated too?

My dealer told me I should backwash the speaker wires once in a while to flush out electron residue that can affect the sound. He suggested reversing the ends of the wire--connect the speaker end to the amp and the amp end to the speaker, then play music loud for 5 minutes to wash out all the residue. Then switch it back. My wires have arrows on them, should I still backwash them?

No, you can just call the cable company and they will send you new arrows that point the other way.

How 'bout a different continent from time to time? You are not doing your speakers any justice.

If you move closer to magnetic North this will improve driver responce due to the magnets on the back of each driver getting an extra boost. This is why Canadian systems generally sound better. :W
