I truely love the sound from my Mark Levinson 432 (400w x 2). I've listened to Classe in the store but for my tastes I prefer the Levinson sound.
Amps to create "revelation" on 802D / 800D

I don't have these speakers in my house. Too much money for me.Originally posted by BlazarThere is no amp that will create a "revelation" with these speakers...
The revelation comes from room treatment.... of this I am absolutely certain with my experiences so far. The more bass traps, absorption, and diffusion modifications I make, the better the sound is getting.
But I want to echo Blazar's opinion. Room treatments make a HUGE difference. From a sound standpoint I'd say 1/3 speaker, 1/3 electronics, 1/3 room.- Bottom

I'm a little surprised there hasn't been much talk of Jeff Rowland with B&W. That combo sounded very good, I thought.
My friend had 802D's with KW500. Then went to Mac integrated 2275. Better in almost all regards, then went to mac separates. 402 amp and c2200 pre amp.
I'd take the amp and pre amp from mac over the kw500, which I like.- Bottom

I have never actually heard the 800d's on VTL amps, but I did listen to the 802d's on VTL power and it sounded pretty good. Not as good as the Classe CAM400's IMO though.Originally posted by peter clarkeDear soundgravy, How do the VTL's perform?????Robert P. 8)

Judging from these many responses, I think it's safe to say that many amps would do the job-- very well... why not find 5 or so that fit your budget and audition them? I listened to Jeff Rowland, Classe, Levinson, Krell and McIntosh with my 802D's and decided on the Mac.B&W 802D, HTMS-4; Velodyne DD-12, Arcam AVR-300, McIntosh MC-402, Musical Fidelity KW-SACD, Pioneer Elite
"... these go to eleven."- Bottom

I think for good reason....... IMHO Anthem does just dandy on HT but when it comes to serious two channel listening there is better stuff out there, alot of which has been named in this thread. My vote for SS goes to Plinius and in the world of Tubes I must say after hearing these speakers recently at Overture Audio in De. being driven by the new ARC Ref amps.....Wow !!Originally posted by jack dWhat do you guys think about the Anthem P2? I didn't see anyone mention it so far.Dave

Indy,
I have been running the Bel Canto e.One Ref1000 monoblocks with my 802Ds for about a year now. I got the the Bel Cantos as soon as they came out. I have a Mark Levinson 380s pre-amp and 360S DAC as the primary sources.
Overall I have been extremely happy with them. They drive the 802's with ease and amazing clarity. The transient response is amazing. My only complaint is there is a touch of coolness in the treble and upper midrange. However like a lot of affects, this is very slight and depends on the source material.
The additional pluses is the small sizes of the monoblocks and their efficiency. As a PWM amp, they run super cool even at high output levels.
If I were to make a change, it would be to the much more expensive Levinson 436 monoblocks. Alot of that has to do with me being a lifelong fan of the Levinson sound.

Thanks for the insight to the Bel's. I had a chance to listen to the Jeff Roland digital mono's, felt the same way a "a touch of coolness".
I went the route of Mac MC501 mono's. They run very cool and sound superb with BW800D.
Happy holiday's and New Year.

by kmchengDoes anyone have any experience pairing the new Bel Canto digital amps with the B&W 800 series speakers?
I have been exploring better amplication after I got my 805S. Currently I have a Cambridge Audio 540R receiver (100W into 2 channels 8ohm). The receiver is fine for HT but really...-

by Jeff MayerHi all,
I'd appreciate any collective wisdom on the Bel Canto Pre2 stereo preamp as a significant upgrade over my Onkyo 797 receiver. I'm using the onkyo's preout's into a Parasound a51 amplifier. I feel that for movies the onkyo is fine but for stereo it is lacking. I listen to at...-

by kmchengLast week I got an integrated amplifier (Bel Canto e.One S300i) to power my 805S speakers. I hooked up the speakers, and I was very happy. But I had not connected my two PV1 subwoofers to the amp yet. I am now considering using the speaker-wire connections to hook up the PV1 with the Bel Canto. However,...-

by MrWhiteCurrently I have my pair of 802D's driven by a Rotel RB-1080. It works well enough but I have heard these speakers only get better as the available power on hand goes up. And, since I use them for both music and HT with no sub, I do get a little worried during longer, louder listening session and during...-

by sikonikoWell, I am moving into my new house and most of the place is still in boxes. I did hook up my sherwood and my brand new ref9's to my N802's out in the garage. The room is most likely an acoustical nightmare at the moment, but I will be enclosing it in the coming months/weeks and getting it finished....-
