Locating Rear Speakers in a 5.1 system

I'll be installing a 5.1 system in the next few weeks. My mains are 802's and my rears are SMS1's. My installer says to put the SMS1's on the rear wall soffet, which is about 9 feet high. I've had someone else suggest putting them on the side walls. My installer says only dipolar speakers should go on sidewalls. Which one is correct? Also, should I wire for an eventual 7.1 system? My listening room is about 19 feet wide, 18 feet deep and open in the back.

I have a 7.1 setup and originally had my SCM1's on the side wall at the 90 degree position (as shown in the pic below). I hated it. I felt like i was trapped in a pressure zone of rear channel information. I have since moved them back to around the 110 degree position and am much happier. If you plan on doing any multichannel SACD or DVD-A, don't put them at the 90 degree position.

          DS6/DM600 as rear surrounds?
          by BlazeMaster
As title says it all, which should I go with to use as rear surrounds? I have the Denon 2805 which is compatible with DPLIIx and will be using the DS6 as side surrounds for sure at about 2 feet above ear level when sitting down. The saving of $$ by going to DM600 can apply to my upgrade of fronts...

I've finished up my second (identical) dual SS RLP-15 subwoofer with 4 side mount passive radiators. Tuning is 23 hz. Power is about 900 watts with each subwoofer driven by a separate QSC 1450 amp.

I got the newly finished sub in the house last night and even though I didn't corner...

I currently have a pair of CDM7NT's for my speakers with the matching CDMCNT center. I'm now trying to decide what to ad as my rear surrounds. I've been temporarily using my old paradigm bookshelfs some of the time because I have to set them up on a counter behind seating and run the wire across the...

          I'm talking about cabling here!

Currently I have my cables running along the walls to the back. I use one throw rug to cover one cable which cross a walk way. I was thinking of putting the cables in the ceiling but in-wall cables are hard to find. Plus if I do go in-wall the length...
