    question about DS7

I realize that the DS7s are designed as wall hanging speakers. But does anyone know if I can still get quality sound by placing them on a stand or table? Drilling holes to run speaker cable doesn't sound like something I want to experiment with.

    Thanx for an A/V newb.

I have my left DS7 on a wall and right DS7 near a column (no wall). The speakers will work but you might lose some of the dipole effect by not placing them on a wall. Unless you think you actually will need to use the DS7 in dipole and monopole mode, you are better off with the 705. You might have difficulty finding stands that will raise the tweeter 2 to 3 feet above your ears (this is the recommended height for side or surround speakers).
In the end, let YOUR ears and YOUR wallet be your guide.

Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought about the exact height that I would need to raise them. I had originally wanted to use 705's up front and back, but someone suggested that the DS7s would be much better. The dipole would be ideal for surround sound.

This is my first post here - glad to have found this place after wearing out the search engines @ Home Theater Forum and AVS Forum (love 'em both, but a B&W only spot is pretty neat!). Especially since I've just ended more than a decade of Paradigm Studio Reference speaker ownership to join...

        4x705s/HTM7 + DS6 or 4x705s/HTM7 + DS7 ??
        by c912039
        Hi,

Im looking at putting together a package of 4x 705s plus a HTM7 for 5.1 HT use. I would actually like to go 6.1 (I dont have enough space for 2 speakers on my rear wall), and so my first logical choice was to go for the DS7.

        Hello All,

I am a new member of this forum but I have been visiting it for sometime learning tips and other useful information. Now I need your help. I am planning an upgrade to my existing 5.1 channel system and I have narrowed my choices down to the 804S for the L and R, and the HTM3S...

        B&W dipole vs. bookshelf as surrounds [DS3 vs 685, DS7 vs 705. DS8 vs 805]
        by videophile
Please help me decide on which surround speakers to get: DS3 or 685? I have B&W 683, HTM61, Velodyne CHT-12R, Rotel RSP-1066 and Rotel RMB-1075. [I'm sure the question can apply to DS7 vs. 705 and DS8 vs. 805]

I know that dipole speakers produce more diffused sound as compared to...

Freq response and DS7 surround speakers
        by Pez
I am looking to add the DS7 suuround speakers to my 705 and HTM7 setup but was concerned about the frequency response. Most of my HT usage is movies and when used in dipole mode the upper end of teh DS7 is only rated to 10 kHz as opposed to 20 kHz that most speakers are listed at. Based on the description...
