    New 803D owner! Lovn' them!

Just brought home my new 803D speakers and got them quickly hooked up so I could have a brief audition before revamping all my amp/processor electronics. They look and sound great! I also picked up the more basic HTM3S center and will try that out for movies. I'm mainly a 2 channel music guy, so the center and surrounds are not that critical to me. I still need to replace my surrounds as I've currently got Mirage towers back there. Ignore the mess and cabling as I was auditioning a bunch of speakers here over the past several months and had multiple power amps and speakers hooked up over time.

Why do builders keep putting the fire place in the middle don't they know by now that we don't watch the fire place for entertainment anymore!!!

Nice set up! I have been very happy with my 803Ds and have the same center HTM3S. I have considered upgrading, but never have.....always something else!!

What speaker stand is that for the HTM3S? Or is it two stands pushed together? The base looks a little small, is it stable?

Yep, the center stand is just two stands pushed together. It's stable enough for the time being, until kids come around (nephews, etc.). I'm going to have a custom center stand made from metal and painted. Typical fillable column, bigger base, top with holes to bolt through to the threaded inserts in the HTM3S. I might make the center stand a bit taller to better line up with the mid and tweeter of the 803D.

Ya, the fireplace thing always baffles me too. When we had the house built, I talked with the builder about moving the fireplace to a corner - out of the way! We live in HOUSTON and rarely get cold for long. It would have been a big issue to change, so I left it there realizing we'd likely somewhat hide it with a center.

            Hi boarder,
Have you ever thought about repurposing the fireplace area to accomplish something acoustically? I wonder if it could be easily converted into a bass trap or maybe a location for a subwoofer, recessed into the wall. Wouldn't be too much construction...

Good-lookin' setup, by the way! Love that how that rosenut finish contrasts with a white background.

The bass trap idea is intriguing, but not likely real effective in the center of a wall. I have thought about locating a sub or both in there too. But the wife says despite being allowed to cover it up and never using it, it can't be removed or used in another way that'd require it being rendered unusable. So, the fireplace stays and the center does too.

The rosenut in the room blends well and gives a nice contrast to the all black layout we had before. They also don't show up to much when the lights are dimmed for movie viewing. The rosenut, particularly with the grills off, really looks nice against the white - I agree.

Here are some quick pics from tonight.
I replaced my 52" Sony (loved that TV) with a 65" Panasonic TCP65V10. I really like this one too, its a monster

I also picked up an HTM2D with a busted diamond tweeter and swapped in a Nautilus tweeter and housing. I picked up the stand at Best Buy earlier this week, the pics really dont show it, but its curved like the 800s, rounding off to the back.

I needed something and it worked. My only dissapointement is the TV mount it comes with states its rated to 165 lbs, however with my 135lb plasma, id be worried with a 165lb TV on there. I originally had the center sit on the top shelf, but the TV had to be a bit high to clear it and I dont trust all that weight that high on this stand. Eventually I will get a new wall mount so I can keep the TV low, yet far enough back so the center can sit on top of the glass, then I can put the other glass shelf I had to remove for the center back in.

Oh well, not perfect by any means, but the movie and PS3 gaming experience is good enough for me

                    Hi Race Car Driver,

your system looks good. clean, essentian.... the 65" plasma is great :T

Sorry the only "low point2 is the position of the center (htm2d):

the htm2D is not too low?
even if you turn to your point of listening (and viewing) the difference with the tweeter of 802 is remarkable!
I don't know if there is a table in front of the station, or rather between the bridge projection audio / video and the listener ....
if there is nothing between the 2 points well but the office is always very low ..
                    You do not you?

I also own a htm2d and not easy to find the rack/mobile "right" for a central area that wants to give the best in sound (at first) and in design too!! ops:

you much place do you have between the 2 mains speakers (802n or d?)

In any case a great system, clean esenziale HT system ... well done! :T :T

Yea, its a bit low. Not what I wanted but it will have to do for the next month or two. I think I already have it planned out.

I bought that shelf/stand so I didnt have to mount my TV on this wall. I moved it from another wall and have several holes to fill. When I went to mount it originally a month ago I found the AC lines for my light and switch run level across the wall and right up the stud I was going to center the TV on. I was hoping I didnt have to go into the wall by getting this stand.

I went to Best Buy the other night and decided I am going to buy a Sanus wall mount after the holiday spending is paid for.

I am going to get this one

However that will require me to cut into the wall on the other side to check out what is going on with the electical, I will also have to reinforce the studs. That bracket weights 61lbs alone (40+ more than most) and the TV weighs 137.

Doing this will allow the TV to only stick out 5-6" total from the wall, allowing the HTM2D to be placed back on the top shelf. I will be able to place the bottom 4" or so of the TV behind the HTM2D tweeter. So the TV will only have to be raised about 2". But I will also be moving it back 8" or so from its current position and bringing the HTM2D up and out of that stand which I was really bummed about hiding it in.

                      Thanks for the compliments.

My little set up! Plan on adding a N HTM1 and maybe upgrading to 803 N. Is that worth an upgrade since it would be hard for me to audition them?

I had a pair of N803s and N804s. I really liked them both, IIRC the 3 is quite a bit "bigger"

I would upgrade to a NHTM1 before I consider upgrading the mains. I have also had a NHTM2 and HMT2 and will say its a no brainer to get the HTM1. Its a much better center IMO and dont see how anyone cant be impressed with it. :T

                              Nice setup.

Not sure what additional performance the 803's will give you, but a bigger center will certainly be worth it.

                                  Welcome to the forum. :T

I concur with what has been said. The centre speaker is critical in multichannel sound and I feel that a N HTM1 will be an excellent investment. Not too sure about the N803 though as I've not owned or heard them. I have owned a pair of N804 speakers and found them to be more than capable considering their size.

Wish I could listen to the 803's. If you guys see a HTM1 Black please PM. Love the Nautilus line! :T

^^ As you can see in picture #1. I have a cardboard back behind the centre speaker attatched to the stand. Would it be more benificial to remove that cardboard back, leave it open, and hang an acoustic panel lengthways on the wall behind the centre?

I would try a bit of acoustic foam in the back of the box. My center is an a similar position above my tv, and (subsequent to the pictures below) I added a piece to the rear of my speaker box, and it provided a noticable improvement. I also re-ran Audyssey after installing it, and the foam resulted in a much more linear equalization curve.

Thanks. Might have to give it a try. I have my centre elevated in the back right now. I should have room to put some Corning 703 in the back

I would be very worried the apple TV gets to hot to set on top of the Oppo. ATV can get very hot...even to the touch.

Thank you for the help with the pics, not the best but they will do for now. The sub in the cabinet actually works great like that for me. I get no rattles, plenty of bass and my only other option was to put it between the couch and chair on the opposite wall. i tried that and it sounded like crap. I have to little ones, other wise i would bring the speakers forward and take the grills off. I love the look with the grills off. I can't complain, it sounds kick ass!!!! Thank you everyone for the kind comments and help with posting the pics.

I have one thought. Move the center channel out an inch or two. The Evo's will likely create a bit of a box effect on the center. Moving it forward should open the sound up a little. It will also get it closer to being on the same plane as your main speakers.

With your system, every little tweak can be noticed.

                                                                                    Hope this helps.
