Hi!
I thought I may start posting about my projects. I think I've just (barely) got the hang of this speaker design stuff.
The first project I'll try to document are the Slanted Monoliths, which will be a:
1) Slanted tower
2) 2.5 ways
3) 2 830884 Peerless Exclusive 8" drivers per side
4) 1 Seas 27TBFC tweeter per side
5) Aproximately 100L in net volume (?)
6) 2" baffle, 1" enclosure, MDF, with a 6mm veneer (maple?)
There are still a couple of points I haven't decided yet, though. Here are the unknown variables:
1) Should I stay with BassBox & LSPCad, or move towards SoundEasy?
2) Sealed or ported? Those Peerless really need massive amounts of internal volume if ported (well, massive compared to, say, a Natalie).
3) Crossover frequency? I'm aiming for a 1.5 KHz filter. I wouldn't know how to implement a C-E filter here (with the added .5 woofer, that is), so I guess I'd use a 4th ~ 6th order L-R acoustical. I suppose it's not a big deal, since the Exclusives don't have resonances as strong as a metal cone.
I'll try to design the enclosure this week. So far, I'm looking at a 1 meter tall, 50 cms. deep, 33 cms. wide enclosure (not exactly what I'd call "small") with a 6° slant on the baffle.
So I guess I'm all set. I still wonder how am I supposed to measure the baffle on-axis... is it on tweeter axis, or should I raise the mic a bit and point it towards the tweeter at 1m?
One other thing - I measured impedance and T-S parameters of tweeter and woofers. One thing I noticed is that the woofer's Le is way off spec on each of the 4 units I tested. I wonder if there's an error on Peerless' spec sheet.
Will post the parameters later today...
