I joined the forum because I’ve become increasingly interested in home theater. I enjoy watching a good movie, but I also like learning how small changes to the sound, picture, or speaker placement can improve the whole experience.

I still have plenty to discover, so I’ll probably ask a few questions along the way. I’m also looking forward to joining the discussions and sharing my progress.

Given that my home theater history goes back many decades, and many iterations of hardware (much of it front projection) I will make one suggestion for an area for you to investigate that is so often overlooked...

• Speaker placement and setup- many different approaches, but if you plan to use a system for music playback as well as Home Theater, then the simplest target to consider is does your setup reproduce high quality live orchestral music well, compared to listening to the same music on good headphones? By well, I mean the goal should be being able to reproduce the "acoustic space" of the original recording. This was something I first worked out successfully in the late 1970s.
• Room acoustics- specifically room treatments to prevent early reflections causing comb filtering effects in the frequency response - this applies from the bass area on up through the midrange and highs. And it has a big impact on the issues above- particularly for center channel devices, whose placement near the floor is pretty much a guarantee of comb filtering issues.
