    Capital Audio Fest

Hey all, Capital Audio Fest is coming up Nov 14-16 in Rockville MD (just north of DC) and there were some great sounding rooms last year. I’ll be going either Saturday or Sunday. Not sure if Sven or Dhar or anyone else local is around that weekend but would be great to catch up in person with some local HTG folks. Let me know and we can arrange a meetup.

I want to go too. I will be in town that weekend and have it on my calendar to attend. I could go Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday.

Envy you folks- nothing like that going on out here in the far west! I used to go to some events in CA, and even have been to the High End show in Munich.

I will try to upload some photos tomorrow. The event was pretty packed on Saturday while I was there. It's been a busy week of calls and an on site visit today now that I'm back in the local area. Slow work takes time...

I'll start with the top three rooms that I liked. No particular order, but to my ear these were the 3 rooms that I enjoyed listening in on the most.

I don't recall the brands, but I think they are in the image.

The last room was really 3 rooms, but they were all from the same designer. I really liked the bigger tower and the blue stack. The green ones were nice too, but the other two really sounded the best for me. One thing I would like to note is that they had foam on the Raal tweeter which is something I've seen another designer here on the forum do too...

These are some photos from the other rooms. Interesting designs and some sounded great while others looked very nice but lacked in sound to my ear.

The last few rooms to share. The little orbs were DSP, and packed a punch.

Not surprisingly I generally agree with Sven 😀. I was a bit worried that the first 5-6 rooms I checked out this year sounded much worse (to me) than what I have at home (thanks Jon 😜). The Gershman room in Sven’s first photos was the first room that made me go ‘wow’ - very engaging warm sound. In general the vinyl selections folks were playing detracted from my enjoyment (too many clicks and pops) while the VPI room with the big JBLs in Sven’s third post had amazingly lifelike dynamics with great live drum selection playing while we were there.

The blue master artist audio speakers Sven posted above (their medium room) was my favorite room at the show although their ‘big’ room was really compelling as well.

The diptyque panels in Sven’s second room (listening room brand in background) were the only panels I heard at the show with compelling bass and was a really enjoyable room.

Another favorite was the Von Schweikert / Vinnie Rossi room, a show goer asked to put on vinyl of Art Blakey’s Night in Tunisia and it captivated the room for the whole selection.

Also great sound callouts to the Danville audio room and la dolce, both with interesting approaches to flat panels.

Finally the Chesky LC2 powered by Schiit gear sounded really nice to me (especially not knowing the background at the time). Some post-show reading shows this hobby is in good hands for the next generation of designers 👍
