Complete newbie question

So I'm a pro guitar player so pro audio and speakers are things I've dealt with a lot so obviously setting up home theater stuff be a breeze!...

So this place I bought had a dedicated theater room with a set in raised stage area (with a woofer underneath) they used for movies, well I'm using it for music and sometimes other stuff. I got this second hand receiver and was about to plug it in when I discover the speakers have a banana plug and the receiver has a spring plug...

Outside of snipping off all the banana plugs (they're thicker wire than the dude gave with the receiver and speakers) is there a converter you'd recommend that'll convert banana to spring for the speaker outputs?

I take it the banana plug is thicker than the hole in the spring connector? I'm just asking, because some of the banana plugs I've seen seem like it but actually will fit with a little push. I don't recommend it if you are certain it won't (ie even visually it can't fit).

The simplest thing to do is cut the wire if the banana plugs won't come off. You can always buy new ones and put them on. To me that's better than trying to find an adapter.

Like PewterTA said, cutting off the plugs is the simplest solution. You can always replace them in the future, but then banana plugs aren't a requirement for a home setup where it pretty much stays put once it's set up. Even if you replace the receiver in the future with one that can take bananas, you can loosen the binding posts and stick the stripped wires in. Bananas or 1/4" plugs are nice for equipment you gig or DJ with and need to set up/break down quickly.

If for some reason you want to keep the plugs, get some inline banana jacks someplace and solder pigtails to them, and stick those into the speaker outputs on the receiver.
