What to buy if we started over?

I thought I posted this, but maybe I forgot to click submit in my old age. Assuming you sold all your gear, amps, cables, speakers, etc. either due to age, home fire (god forbid) divorce, whatever the reason. What sytem would you purchase? let's say you have $50,000 to spend just to keep thing from getting out of control. So, what would your choices be and why?

Since im starting this thread and been doing research for a friend. my choice may be Meridian do to saving space and cost of cables, etc. not sure if they would match the sound of my mac's and B&W, but I would save alot of room and no more rats nets.

Active speakers, could be Meridian, and a pure computer based solution with a god DAC. Ipod touch/Ipad as remote. Nice clean and simple..

...but after 6 months I would start to upgrade and end up with just as much gear again.. :-)

Two 800Ds, find an HTM1D and small surrounds of some kind. I would spend the rest on used gear.

Always had a hankering for some huge Krells. I would track down another Sony SCD-1 and TA-E1 preamp.

Cables, I would spend very little on. Ive been down that route.

Brandon, try this. According to all the reviews, it's close.

If I started over. . . hmmmm. Gotta think on that.

I'd probably stay with Aerial Acoustics for the speakers as I'm still in love with my 7B's. Amps would probably be Bryston, Pass or Ayre. Pre-pro from Ayre along with Mr. Hansen's universal player. I'd stay with my dedicated Opus music server. Turntable would probably be a VPI HRX with the JMW tonearm, cartridge TBD. For HT decoding, I'd stay with Yamaha, most likely the RX-V11.

That system should keep me happy 'til it wouldn't matter any more.

I would break it down maybe two ways and stay under the cap. For HT I would stick with Anthem and B&W for my pre amp - amp - speaker selection. I would then do a 2 channel with some cool vintage gear. I wouldn't reach for the stars with my $50,000 for the pinacle techno stuff. I would go for solid functional HT and functional style with the retro.

I DID sell all my gear when I moved. Well, except my speakers. I actually started back up with just a received and DVD player from Marantz. I did that to be happy and keep my options open. At the time, HDMI 1.3 was just kicking off. It's a much more stable time for HDMI 1.3 devices. Lots of good solid choices. I'd pick a McIntosh HT setup. MX150 and MC205. I'd be happy with that.
