Wired internet to tap into wireless network

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to hook up my OPPO BDP 83 to a ethernet jack to be connected to my wireless network continuously. I am wondering if there is a device that will take my wireless signal and then convert it to wired ethernet form that I can plug into my OPPO. My router is in another room about 100" away. I am using a Apple Airport as a router. I hope I am not to confusing as to what I am looking for. Thanks,
    Ray

    You can use a wireless bridge. I use a D-Link DAP-1522

Thanks. The way I have it hooked on right now is modem to Apple airport express(my router). I am not sure if I use the above I obviously have to replace the Airport express but will I still have wireless internet once I hook up the other end to the OPPO BDP 83 or do they just talk to each other? Are there devices which have more than one ethernet jack at the end so I can connect more than one device i.s if I want the BDP and something else connected at the AV side?

The wireless bridge will be connected to your Oppo via a cable. Then you would configure it to connect wirelessly to your Airport. With most wireless bridges, it'll provide 4 network ports so you can connect up to 4 devices on your AV side. Your Airport will likely provide the DHCP to assign IP addresses to the connected devices.

I connect my Kuro and Oppo to the bridge...works well for f/w upgrades and such. I wouldn't use it for streaming video though.

Yup, you need a bridge. I'm actually considering buying the same product, D-Link DAP-1522, but using it as a wireless access point. Rated well.

Thanks. What is the difference between a wireless bridge and access point? Or are they the same?

Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to make things confusing! They are two different things, two different purposes. A Bridge uses a wireless connection to plug a wired device into a network. A Wireless Access Point is the thing that broadcasts the actual wireless signal from a network that your computer (or other device) can connect to wirelessly.

You need a bridge. It just so happens that the particular product mentioned, the D-Link DAP 1522, can be used for EITHER ONE. I just happen to be thinking about using it as a 2nd wireless access point for my house, for when I get too far away from my primary router access point.

ray5, you can get another Airport Extreme and configure a WDS for bridging: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2044

                    Thanks guys,
In that event the D-link seems pretty good. The Airport Extreme is also a good option though a bit more expensive. Do you know how many ports it has? I see 4 but are they specifically intended for any purpose? ALso, the D-link can it perform as both a bridge and router at the same time or do you have to assign one task? The Airport Extreme appears to be dual also?

Yes, the D-Link is used for one function at a time, controlled via switch, either bridge or WAP.

Just to clarify...Airport Extreme is a WAP/Router or bridge. The D-Link DAP-1522 can be configured as a WAP or bridge but not a router. And the 4 ports will allow you to connect devices to the network.
