    It's a highly fluid situation

No, not battle, as you may recall one fluid situation from Broken Arrow. Rather, it's the forum layout at HTGuide! lol.

I made the Extreme, Extreme DIY. I also converted MC Audio to a speaker listening room of sorts called "The Inner Sanctum".

So, let me know what you guys thing about these changes. If some folks really don't like it, we can always go back.

    Well, Lex,

The question is, which of my projects do I put in Xtreme DIY verus "Regular" DIY, versus an area like "Tower of Power"? Is an HDTPC "Extreme DIY"? (Doesn't seem like it to me). Is my custom electronic crossover for my X1 Klones "Extreme DIY" (15 MHz video amps, 1/2 amp of current capable output stage, Jensen balanced output transformers with -3dB points of 0.1 Hz and 15 MHz, pure custom fabricated PCB's, etc.)? If it isn't, what is- where do we draw the line? On a pound basis? Number of components? Amount of SuperPC design time required? (top end Athlon and PIII/PIV systems are over 1,000 MIPS- a few years ago you'd need a DOD license to export, because they would have been considered supercomputers capable of designing nuclear weapons).

Ahhhh, that's it, nuclear weapon design is Xtreme DIY! NOW I've got it!!

    Happy Holidays, folks.

    -Juan

Jon, I understand where your coming from. But to avoid these lines entirely will mean limiting the scope of various forum areas in several areas. I realize some things overlap, but I really haven't been all caught up in categorizing things.

Extreme DIY to me, is the IB sub, the Legacys, and such. Yes, perhaps even an extreme HTPC. Maybe it's a totally custom theater, from a constructiion perspective.

I look at sonosubs, standard 2 ways maybe, that sort of thing as standard DIY. I look at large projects, or particularly creative projects that involve a larger investment as extreme.

But I won't move a post because I think it's extreme, but someone posts it in the normal DIY.

I felt that we have done enough good things in DIY here, To give it room to grow. That's really what this is about. Allow it to blossem and bloom.

Anyway, we can change things if the lines get to confusing.

      Lex

        Ferrofluid

Ferrofluid is a unique liquid that contains tiny magnetic particles suspended in a carrier fluid, typically a solvent. The particles are typically made of iron oxide or a similar magnetic material, and they are coated with a surfactant to prevent them from clumping together. Ferrofluid exhibits fascinating magnetic properties and finds various applications in audio, including loudspeaker design and optimization.

I just picked up this DVD and I have to say, I was pretty floored by the recommended PC specifications required to play the Hi-definition transfer on your PC at 1080p.

This is what is stated on the box:

        DIY MTMWW Questions
        by SteveCallas
Since I had such great success with my DIY sonosub, largely in part because of all the great help I received on the audio forums, I am now interested in building some DIY mains and a center. I realize building a successful speaker will be a lot tougher than a sonosub, but I am in no immediate hurry...
