    Philips Announces Dual Layer Recordable DVD

    Now you'll be able to bore your friends with even LONGER videos of your vacation with the latest advance in recordable DVD technology announced by Philips. The dual layer discs will hold up to four hours of DVD quality images or 16 hours of VHS quality. No word in their announcement on whether new DVD burners would be required to take advantage of the higer capacity discs.

      So our office got together and got this Philips 32PT830H for a coworker for a house warming / help out (husband lost job and their TV blew up) gift.




      It came to just under $700 Canadian, after taxes through our supplier :E A price I can still hardly believe!...

      So I seem to remember a few months ago that we were supposed to start seeing dual-layer writers coming out in April/May'ish ...? Well it's mid-May now and nothing?! :wtf:

      Anyone heard any developements/info about this? Has there been a delay? Are they still coming? Dang it, I want one!...

      About the DVD layer: From what I've read it comes in two flavors - Enhanced stereo sound or 5.1 surround.
