I said I would give something away, so here tis! Don't settle for just a cable when you can get a CAT. CATCables, the official Cable of HTGuide. You expected someone else? LOL.

To enter, I want you to list the cheesiest cable in your system, and approximate it's value with a number from .01 to 1.00 value. (This will be translated into a number from 1 to 100

For you guys that don't use OEM cables, and have say, CATs,

just pick a number from 1 to 100.

This contest will run the entire month of February.

the poorest cable left in my system would have to be the ultra cheap cables I'm using to get audio out from the TV back to the receiver in case I want to watch TV and tape something on the VCR (rarely used however)

A cheapo composite A/V cable that I use between my satellite receiver and VCR for timeshifting. Just couldn't bring myself to spend good dollars on anything fancy. Value: 0.25. ops:

Ummmmmmm......... do I HAVE to tell you my cheesiest cable? I'll lose all the respect (if I have any) of the other members......

Okay. I still use the OEM RCA cables IN and OUT from my tape deck. And in a couple of other places, which I'm not going to mention. Value? .01 each. I'd give them less of a value but I guess some of the sound actually makes it through them. But at least they are very, very light and don't pull hard on the RCA jacks on the back of my receiver!??? :roll:

There. I've said it. I'm going to shrink back into the corner.....


P.S. Gorgeous cable, Doug! My PDR10 from Paradigm could use one of those!

Ok, I have no need for a 4M sub cable since my sub has an external amp, but what the hey, I'm more likely to win something if I don't need it, right?

I could stand to upgrade the interconnects between my receiver, BFD, and sub amp though.

As for crappiest cables, I think my Sony MXD-D3 MiniDisc deck is connected via the el crappo cables that came with it! Value: $0.02 before taxes.

The cheezze of my cords would have to be some no name RCA's from my VCR to receiver. You know the type, extruded as 3 cords together with the red, white & yellow party hats over the ends.

Cheeziest cables I have are some that came with my old Sony VCR. The video and both audio cables are the same diameter (~3mm).

The magic number is: .17 (ie: 17) for that much I'm sure I could buy at least a dozen of the cables 'o cheeze.

Great contest Lex! The cheeeeeeeesiest cable I have is the one from my sony double cassette deck to my Reciever. The Original one that came with the unit is being used from my VCR to Recvr. So I found a pair of RCAs in my dads' crappo box which are about say 27 yrs old now worth -0.001c AFTER TAXES! They even glow in the dark! 8O

I really need that cable my friend!!

I suspect my worst are the wispy-thin little itty bitty thin brown "threads" they sent with the HTIB in our bedroom..those satellites could use a better chance in life. The sub cord is equally worthless.
I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt and go for 48.

Of course, what do I need the least in my system? A 4M sub cable!? Could it be made into 2 2M cables w/XLRs, I could use those!!

I do read stuff in the Chalet, but I tend to grab the more recent threads, and to be honest, I forgot about the contest! Perhaps an email would have been a good idear, especially when you didn't hear anything from me after a few days, weeks, months... :E

I always figure I never win anything, so I wasn't checking the thread on a daily basis to see who won...

So, what should I do considering I don't need a 4 meter sub cable? Do you accept substitutions? Two 2M cables would work for me, and I can always pay the difference to cover the additional connectors, your time, etc. I was planning on placing this order after payday anyway:

Basically what I'd need for my LFE run is two 1.5 to 2 meter cables (I'll have to check if 1.5 is enough). One would be RCA on one end, XLR on the other (the half and half cable I've mentioned before); and the 2nd cable would be XLR both ends. When I looked at the manuals for my gear there should be no problem with the half and half cable, as the jacks are wired in parallel on the BFD, and it handles the balanced/unbalanced balancing act automatically. Ditto for my amp, a Peavey CS 800.

Let me know what you think, ok?
