DVD Player upgrade

Just wanted to hear some of your thoughts.....Just looked at the Arcam DV79 at a dealer in Pa. Was pretty impressed by video and audio quality. However, at $1100 the price seems a little steep. Any thoughts on alternatives that would be used for 95% home theatre? Denon?

I cant in good conscience recomend looing at any high priced DVD player considering how good HD DVD players upconvert DVDs and play HD DVDs.

In that price range you can buy the Toshiba XA2 and not only have a great HD DVD player but a player which upconverts SD DVD equal to or better then any DVD player at any price. Bold statement, but true.

Yes, this is definitely a rocky time to be buying a player. The PS3 now does DVD upconverting in addition to BD, and the PS3 is just getting better and better with every update.

very true...and since the latest firmware update the PS3 does a great job with upconversion. I especially like how much better the picure is with RGB set to "full" since the last firmware update. Its amazing how much firmware updates can improve HT components. On day it cant upconvert, and thr next i can by a simple update.
