How long do you keep HT mags?

As I have been into hometheater for a few years now, I have really cut back on the amount of HT related magazines that I purchase. It used to be one or two a week. Now a may buy one or two a year.

Some of this has to do with the lack of depth (imo) that the mags have compared to earlier issues. A lot of it is, the space that it requires to kept them. While most of the stuff in them are fluff, there is always an article or two that is worth saving. Or the those special pieces of gear that you are just in love with and have to keep the review.

I've come to realize that I almost never go looking for an old issue of "whatever" for info! So, hence my question to the comunity

to tell you the truth I read most of my HT mags at the big book stores on a nice coumfy couch with a coffee in the other hand. Given the lack of info and high ad content its not hard to "read" through half a dozen HT mags in a hour. They are pretty pics and some news of whats coming out but the reviews generally are followed by a full page ad of the same gear and usually fluff over the details that really matter. I can get an equal "review" from nearly any one that posts on the HT boards what I want from them is benchmarks and things that the averge joe can't measure at home.

I have a couple that I buy every month and some other publications I only purchase once in a while and only if there is something of interest to me in it's contents.

I do have some stacks since I started collecting them in 1999.
I do have some older issues from as far back as 1993/94 when I was buying about 3 per year.

I still have a copy of "Stereo Review" from 1967 where their "Pop Record of the Month" was an album by Hermann's Hermits (I'm sure we think about them all the time) :>) named "There's A Kind Of Hush All Over The World" and in which they panned a then-new album by those tired old has-beens, "The Beatles". The album they didn't like was "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

Actually, I once saw Hermann's Hermits in concert, fronted by the far more memorable Eric Burdon and the Animals, but I never saw the Beatles perform live. And I have both of the above mentioned albums. I bought "..A Kind Of Hush..." based on Stereo Review's gushing review. Haven't played it in years. Never bought it on CD. Just listened to "Sgt. Pepper..." again last night... I've often thought about tracking down that pop critic and asking if he's changed his mind since then. :>)

But I have no plans to throw away the magazine... even though in hindsight some of their reviews were colossally off-base, they were always entertaining. However, I have already thrown away back issues of Sound & Vision, which supposedly "replaced" Stereo Review. It isn't just their reviews or appalling lack thereof in any quantity, much less quality -- the whole magazine is a mistake. :>)

Don't buy many and don't keep em beyond their intended purpose.

For the reviews, I lean toward The Perfect Vision and Widescreen Review. And I like John Gannon's reviews in SGTHT.The one thing you always get from The Perfect Vision, is pure, unadulterated truth. They could care less about advertisers, though I'm sure this makes life miserable for the marketing guys in the ad department.

As for the magazines themselves, and I get most of them, even if all they have is pretty pictures, I tend to hold onto them until I need space somewhere, then I start tossing the older issues out. But I always keep anything that deals with technology in case I want to refer to it later.

I had a bunch of HT mags and I just recycled them when we moved. I hadn't looked at them in a very long time a I decided that it wasn't worth moving them.

I did keep all my SGHT issues...why...I dunno
                    All the others are gone.

                      Great German DIY Mags
                      by 64NOMIS
As a DIY enthusiast I have the unfortunate pre-condition of not being German.

A few years ago I was in Germany for the first time and discovered those great German DIY mags like Hobbyhifi and I think there are a couple others.

There are also great PC enthusiast magazines...

In whathifi.com review http://www.whathifi.com/Review/BandW-683-Theatre/ is written:

"Sure, it’s got genuine punch and substance in the low frequencies, and generates an expansive, well-integrated soundstage"

1065 and annoying OSD settings (or lack thereof)
                      by ejfiii
Does anyone else find the lack of programmable OSDs annoying with the 1065 and I assume the other units as well? What I mean is this: it sucks you can only have the OSD on or off. I want the volume display and the three speaker quick adjustments available on the TV screen, but not the rest of the OSD...

This movie love it or hate it, looks damn good on this transfer. It's anamorphic and very detailed through most of the film. I was very surprised.

The 5.1 track delivers a very convincing soundstage. With all the effects being what they should.

I will be 42 yrs old in a few days. I add this b/c it is very relative to this hobby. Well, at least to the movie watching portions of it. IMO, we tend to relate more to things of our own childhood/teen yrs than another's era. And as such, many things (A-Z pick your poison) go unknown...
