    Cables bundled or loose?

I redid my rack a couple of weeks ago and I have now bundled most of my cables, just to keep things tidy. Is this a good move? I think I read somewhere that bundling is not very good. I've got mostly cheap interconnects, execpt for my coax audio from my dvd to my rec. That is a much beefier cable and I have it in a loop.

I thought i read somewhere that bundling them caused some kind of problem. Anyway, mine are loose as a goose-- a real mess back there. In fact it's scary.

I'd agree with George, let 'em dangle. Bundling them can cause problems with interference between power cords and signal cords. I recently re-arranged my equipment by moving it all to a rack in a closet, and now when I use my VCR, I've got interference from something. I think my coax runs are too long and not shielded well enough.

To fix the problem, I'm currently looking for some super-duper teflon insulated, 95% or better shielded RG-6 coax. Then, I suppose I'll have to spend an arm and a leg on crimping dies... Oh the fun never ends!

I did some bundles, then said it's not worth it(to me). Now I just let them do what they do.

I was going to comment on this thread sooner, but got side tracked. It's better not to bundle, rather to let wires cross each other at 90 degree angles. Espcially power cords.

However, if you are going to group some wires, as I have. Your better to bundle Audio in 1 stream of wires, Video in another, and power cords away from all that. It actually orgainzed my rack pretty good, the old rats nest looks better than it has in a long time. Of course, now that I am installing cats left and right, I will have to tear the bundles loose to remove some cables I don't use now. Some are already gone, but others still dangle. lol.

I bundle, but seperate the power cords from the low level cords. At the amplitude of low level sigs I don't think there would be any inference and I have not experienced any.

I do somewhat bundle my cables, but it's better to leave them loose. In addition to the above reasons, bundling them puts more pressure on the connectors and wire. It can be very bad on fiber optic cables.

I loosely bundle my cords keeping speakers and interconects together, power cords and video separate. I haven't noticed a problem and I much prefer the clean asthetics to apperent loss or coloration of signal. I use lengths of soild core bell wire (~20 AWG) as twist ties. these allow me to quickly add or separate the bundle/wires.

I'm no where near being a true Audiophile...

Ok, here's what the back of an Audiophile system looks like. There's actually been mice get stuck in there and die, lol. (JK)

Ok, this isn't up to date, but you get the idea of what I am up against.

I know it's a little neater than Bing's for that I am truly sorry. LOL.

Perhaps I need to spend a little less time on the web and clean up the clean up.

Now, up front where my 2 channel is, it's fairly neat. that's my cable showcase too. Back behind the HT, not sure what all those wires do, but I must need them, ROFLMAO.

It's nearly an insurmoutable task to replace all my stuff with CATs. I really want to do more than I can, but I have been forced to forgo some of my own wants for the good of the company. Besides, I got cats moving in and out like a kennel, lol. Seriously concerned about wearing out my connectors!

Eventually, I want to have a test system, that's all I do is test AV cables. Not there yet.
