And once again, all the excess money and time spent on copy protection (which in turn is passed on to you and me as higher costs per disc) for high-def media is wasted. . . ..

Copy protection didn't work in the 80s, and it certainly doesn't work now. (just read my sig). It doesn't stop piracy at all. All it does is limit what legitimate users can do with the discs they purchased.
Most of the time these schemes are cracked by geeks who want fair use of the media (such as playing them on Linux machines), not to pirate. The big-time pirates have expensive equipment that can copy the discs regardless of whatever lame "protection" scheme they have. Or they just bring a camcorder into a cinema.Comment
