No one has been able to help me......

Hello I'm very interested in home theater and have been for awhile and I want to open my own audio video store. The problem I'm having is no one will tell me how to contact a vendor or distributor of the equipment that I want to carry.I have sent email to some of the companies that I want to carry but haven't received a reply. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

If he has the time, I expect that Buzz Goddard would be able to tell you something of what your trying to figure out. I know how vexing a problem this is, as I have had similar roadblocks before.

welcome to htguide.com as well! As our 300th member that entitles you to absolutely nothing. Sorry. I could work you a deal on becoming a stocking dealer of CATCables "silvercats" though. hehe. There's 1 product for ya. Just click the CAT below, he knows.

I would think a great place to make these kind of connections would be at the CES show in Vegas.

Thanks for the advice so far. It feels great to be the 300th member. Aand if anyone has anymore suggestions I would love to hear them. Unfortunately I will not be able to make the show in May(I had back surgery last March but things aren't going the way they should. It's very difficult for me to sit or stand for more than 45 minutes without pain and swelling in the lower back but hopefully things will improve by the time that CEDIA rolls around and I can make that)but if Buzz Goddard reads this post I would love to have his input and Lex once I get things rolling I'll definetly contact you. Like I heard before though anything worth having is worth working hard for and I'm not giving up do wish me luck.

              Richard,
Manufacturer sales reps often have e-mail addresses attached to the company home page.Or, for the matter, the distributor in certain areas.Sales reps are always looking for new customers, so they are a good place to start.Unfortunately, some AV dealers have exclusivity arrangements with some manufacturers, so that may be a problem. But the sales rep or distributor may be a good starting point. If there are few av dealers in your area, you shouldn't have trouble finding lines to carry. If there are too many av dealers, then that could be a big problem.Good luck.
BTW, another avenue is talking with another independent dealer well outside the terrirty you hope to serve.

You call the manufacturer and tell them you're running a custom shop, no retail sales custom install everything sold.

Then they have you buy close to one of everything they make- 1 for show/1 for go .

If you've got the money and an installation crew I would guess you could do very well for yourself, I would contact acurus and b&k first.

                Good Luck,

Also, some companies have minimum purchases. I know Marantz requires you to buy $20,000 worth of stuff to carry their brand. Others are less demanding I guess some more.

YOur best bet would be to talk to some local reps, guys who you would be a customer for and who know they local economic geography. Try:
The IPRO Organization for a few local reps.
