At allmost midnight, I'm involuntarily listening to my neighbor's incredibly loud outdoor rock fest.... not only is it preventing sleep, but its particular boom-boom pattern creates a compelling reason to take Excedrin.
Got to hate it.

OK, since they won't be quiet and sleep is impossible, I'm playing Jimi Hendrix "Are You Experienced?". I tried a classical string quartet, but it is no competition for the neighbor's cacaphony. :>) Janis Joplin is up next in surround sound.

Ah, the Captain and Coke. Still one of my all-time favorites. Matter of fact, I'm going to go make one.
Now, when I get promoted to Major in a few months, does that mean I can't drink the Captain anymore?

As long as you can still pronunce it (to order it), you can still drink it. Then you can try the "Major" drink also known as "Glasgow Cocktail #2" (see below) . A few of those and you may not be able to pronouce either one (that's a good sign that it's time to call it a night). :>) Be sure to have a designated driver if this is happening at the Officer's Club or other location away from home while celebrating your promotion (congrats in advance!!!!).Now, when I get promoted to Major in a few months, does that mean I can't drink the Captain anymore?
MAJOR Drink Recipe
3/4 oz Scotch Whisky
1/4 oz Dry Vermouth
1 dash Bitters
1 dash Pastis
Lemon Peel (twist garnish)
Enjoy!

Thanks, thanks.
Man, I am REALLY liking some of David Beegle's work. He's got a song that he did with Fourth Estate called "Kara Kum" that just ROCKS. It's kind of Indian-sounding electric guitar.
Good stuff.

I got my first 3 titles on DVD-A within the last week or so - playing around with them and a headphone amp I have on demo.
Too bad my pre-pro doesn't have multichannel analog inputs, have to resort to the stereo tracks (which still sound excellent).Danish- Bottom

Race Car Driver,
Keep meaning to pick up a Tool CD. I have always heard good things about them. I guess I’m going have to catch up to the 21st century and start using those online audio clips to sample music.
Listening to right now… unfortunately on an ipod:

I must say, it is currently my favorite album.. and the majority of that has to do with the good 2ch system at home. I find my self turning it up louder then most of my other cds.
Pick it up, the cover is case is CRAZY. You will enjoy it on your home system, the ipod doesnt do it justice.B&W

The ipod does not really do much justice to anything….but with work and a new baby at home my quality time with home audio is very limited.
Also my better half counted the 31 unopened CDs that I have not gotten a round to yet. So I got the “you don’t have time to listen to the ones you have” lecture- Bottom

I love my Ipod, use it all the time, (actually have creed playing right now on it at work) but the home stereo is a whole different experience.
Send those 31 CDs my way, then you wont have to worry about it.B&W

I've been listening to David Beegle's solo work "A Year Closer", a phenomenal acoustical guitar album with many eclectic styles. Just found out when I pulled it out of my player that it's a HDCD disk, which as far as I know could be my first CD encoded as such. I'm going to go try it in my theater to see if it sounds different on my Denon player capable of HDCD.

On a semi-related note, just saw that LAGQ is releasing a new album on hybrid SACD.
And on the other end of the spectrum a new Gold CD recording of Megadeth's "Countdown to Extinction". I can't get enough of "Symphony of Destruction".

The Redbook CDs are, indeed, an excellent sounding set. The SACDs are even more excellent. Thankfully, the SACD engineers did not play cute tricks with the placement of instruments. The surround channels are used for hall ambiance and crowd noise. So the surround SACD adds a spatial illusion with the crowd all around and the band up front that makes it seem more like you are in the concert hall. The resolution is not night-and-day different, but enough better to make the voices and instruments seem even more palpably real.Originally posted by David Meek...how was the Alison Kraus set? PS -- the Beethoven SACD is pretty darned good, too.
