Rotel 1056 vs Pioneer Elite VSX 74

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my first setup and I'm trying to decide on which Surround Receiver to go with. Has anyone been able to compare these two units side by side. They will be powering a pair of B&W 704 mains/Center/Sub and surrounds. The display will be a Pioneer Elite PRO 930 Plasma.

DVD will either be a Rotel 1040 or Pioneer elite DV79 Avi. I need to make a decision by tomorrow so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rotel 1056 with the Pioneer 79Avi.

I prefer the Rotel sound, especially for music. For Video, Pioneer all the way. Saw this hooked up to a Fujitsu plasma and the picture was fantastic and sound was nice too. The 1040 is ok but not in the league of the 79Avi.

I agree, 1056 receiver with Pioneer DVD player IMO.

Though you may want to see what's announced for new products at CES this month before getting anything, especially if things like HDMI switching, room correction etc are important to you

Yep because if Rotel doesn't announce those features, the decision is made for you if you want them... and 2 more channels of amplification.
