    Unveiling the THX spec

Extremetech has a good article explaining the THX criterion for a theater:

Yes, excellent read. I smiled at the last line of the story:

As for that dedicated home theater room with several thousand watts of amplification, a 100-inch screen and custom Barcaloungers for all, we can dream, can't we?
Yes, we can. Wait, a minute! I've got that!

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

        What's in your Criterion Collection?

As you're all probably aware, the Criterion Collection puts out interesting titles across genres, periods and countries of origin--often being the only way to view a number of foreign titles. It is a North American focus (region locked) as it is a boutique licensee of films that have different arrangements...

Avoid theater 3 at Silver City St. Vital at all costs. The sonic experience is dead. That had to be the quietest movie I've seen in a long time. They experienced all sorts of problems with sound at the beginning. The THX theater next door was overpowering our movie and it was quite annoying. I'd swear...

Last Thursday, June 23, '05, I went to a Home Theatre show put on by a high-end dealer here in the Evergreen State of Washington. Their location is only 3 miles from the World Headquarters of Microsoft and the North American headquarters of Nintendo, (Nintendo of America). It seems money is no object...

        Criterion DVDs/Blurays

So I was at Fry's the other day looking for some old movies. I found this great list of (mostly) older movies and was looking for a few at Fry's when I saw a whole section labeled "Criterion". They appear to be high quality versions of older movies. Does anyone have experience with them?...
