Whats the point of Monster AVS2000 and MHTS5100?

I understand the regulator and the surge protector/line conditioner... but would there be any benifit to having BOTH of these not so cheap pieces?
    And why?
How would you hook up both, what components would you chose to plug into both and why?

    Thanks :T

The AVS2000 does not protect your equipment. It is made to provide your equipment with a steady 120 volts of input. They say that Hometheater equipment is sensitive to power fluctuations. I can attest to that as I have lost fues's and components this way. The MHTS5100 is a surge protector. That is what will protect you equipment from power spikes and brown outs. You would have to plug the avs2000 into the MTPS5000. i have the AVS2000 and the HTPS7000 in my setup. Any amps or equipment that draw allot of current I would plug into the 5000. DVD player and TV can be pluged into the 2000. I one amp and subwoofer in the 7000. I have my preamp, tv , another amp and dvd player in the 2000. Hope this helps and not confuses. Monsters webpage has good info on this as well.

I have a Monster 3600. It does a pretty good job, so I have no complaints. It atleast gives me a central location to potentially plug 10 or 12 components into one place.

That being said, I would never plug my amp (Rotel 1075) or my sub (SVS PB12-plus/2) into it. They go straight into a dedicated 20 amp outlet.

The best investment you can make for surge protection is a whole house surge protector installed at the breaker box. Not only does it protect your HT equipment, it protects every piece of equipment in the house that uses power (ie, fridge, washer, dryer, other tv's, etc, etc, anything that needs electricity).

The cost of a whole house unit is cheap as well...I think mine was about 85 bucks. I'm not sure on the exact cost because it was included in some electrical work I had done. But I do know that for $200, the electrician installed the surge protector and two dedicated 20 amp outlets.

At some point, price/performance ratio becomes overkill. And there are better units out there than Monster.

The only reason I own the Monster unit is because I got a major retail chain employee to match an online price for the 3600. Monster stuff is never supposed to be discounted...atleast that is what they say. But I got a 30% discount off retail only weeks after the 3600 was released.

As a side note, I boycott Monster. The 3600 was definitely a one time purchase, because of the price.

I would like to get dedicated outlets but I feel it would be a pain in the butt. I asked my electrician and he said that it would not be simple with my house and how it is laid out.

          That's very interesting.

I did not know you could get a whole house surge protector for such a reasonable price.

That is definitely going to be installed in my next house (living in apartment right now).

I bought the Monster HTS-2500, it does it's job perfectly for what I use it for. Never had any problems with anything plugged into it... And it did clear up the static somewhat that I was getting with my Cable. So who knows...

I don't think you need much beyond the HTS-2500...just doesn't seem worthwhile to me.

              Weird surge protector failure
              by Lex
Last night was watching a movie, and all at once "Pop", my DVD player was off. Upon further examination, TiVo was off, as well as Satellite receiver. Looked a little further, and my Panamax Max1000 was completely out, no lights at all. So, I tried to get my DVD player back on, freaking out...

              Surge protector in line?
              by PSUfan
I just recently started on my home theatre room. I have it all opened up and will be pulling wire. Is it possible to put a surge protector on 1 line right off of the panel? Please bare with me if that doesn't make sense, but just thought I would throw it out there.

              Thanks
