Does D52GW12 do 720p?

I recently purchased this tv from Best Buy:

I have an upconversion dvd player that I hooked up and when I set it to 720p the screen goes crazy. It basically looks like one 4:3 picture in the middle of the screen with two half screens on each side with few colors. I noticed in the ad it doesn't say anything about 720p. I don't have HD service yet but I'm affraid if I get it I won't be able to get any programming in 720p, which is almost everything. I'm a little concerned. Does anyone know?

I do not believe that model does 720p. However, you should still get a very nice picture from 720p sources. I have the RCA D56w20 which doesn't do 720p but, when I watch a source like ESPN which outputs a 720p signal, the picture is just as nice if not better than my 1080i channels.

Of course, a TV the supports 720p would be even better!!! :B
