After hurricane sandy I finally get me man cave. I had an av guy come over and told me were to run my speaker wires and now I'm ready to purchase some equipment I can't get him on the phone. I want to install two recessed cieling speakers for te rears and three non resessed speakers for the fronts and center channel. The reason I can't do resessed in front is because there is a header in the way. I also need a sub to wich I ran coax. Does anyone no of a descent set up for me? I'm also looking for a receiver. Thanks in advanc. Tim
Need advice

I am afraid your post is too vague. What do you mean by "three non resessed speakers?" On-wall? Free-standing? What is your budget and what are your sources? You might get a feel by going to an audio store and then get back to us.Kal Rubinson

Try better stores or A/V installers. Also, put a number on "as cheap as possible" as we all have different meanings for it.
Not resource, sources. What are you playing: CDs, LPs, DVDs, streaming, BluRay, etc.?Kal Rubinson

I will try a better store. I was tryin too order this stuff on line. About the uses its mostly for surround tv, blue ray, and plugging the iPad in or blue tooth. I was checking out crutch field and found some reasonable priced Polk's for the cieling and some fronts that mount on the wall- Bottom

I have V experienced friends who are V happy with Martin Logan Helos line of in-wall speakers.
I have not heard them, but their testimony is good enough for me.
Your current budget is a bit limiting, but if you consider taking the path of continuous upgrade, may I suggest you invest in higher grade speakers first, then upgrade the your electronics over time.
JMHO, YMMV- Bottom

I think that Crutchfield would be a good source for you since they offer very good support, on-line or by phone.I will try a better store. I was tryin too order this stuff on line. The cable isn't the issue; it is the connector. Prefab coax comes with either F-connectors or, for lab use, with BNC connectors. You can get simple adapters from either one from RadioShack or Monoprice.Kal Rubinson

by LexWe would like to wish our East coast friends, particularly in NY/NJ area well. Many of them cannot log in now, of course, with power out for over 6 million people. I understand at least one person was killed even into Canada as a result of this storm and at least 16 in the US, and our coastal waters,... -

by LegairreMy 1066 is running version 1.49. Certain movies like Armageddon that clearly aren't DD-EX allow me to put my 1066 into EX mode. I know the 1066 will automatically do XS mode whenever the back speakers are set to "yes", but EX on non EX encoded movies? Shouldn't the 1066 be looking for the...-

by Bing FungWell we always knew that Dell, Compaq, Gateway...etc, typically are proprietary in design, certainly for the desktop machines, however it seems even Dell towers may not be fully upgradable with off the shelf components that are non Dell. Sounds like a cash grab scheme to me as the Major PC makers seem... -
Since I'm just getting my new Toshiba Widescreen RPTV in I've been trying to understand a little more about Anamorphic and Non-Anamorphic DVD's.
