You know your a HT addict when.....

Carry on with your comments to this statement.
You know your a HT addict when.....
Example:You know your a HT addict when your HT setup is worth more than your car.
or: You know your a HT addict when you blow your bathroom reno money on a new a/v pre/pro and amp.
Lets have some fun with this.

You know you're an HT addict when you're biggest personal problem is figuring out where you're going to put your next CRT projector while not getting rid of the current one....

... you can't decide on how many upconverting DVD players is an adequate number to have on hand, "Just in case"....

...when you scour construction sites for left over section of Sonotube for your next subwoofer project.

...when you walk into a friends new house and start thinking of where you'd put the speakers and projector.

...when you buy a house and a priority is a basement with a room suitable for a projector and IB sub.

...when you adjust the aspect ratios of the wdiescreen TV and dvd players incorrectly set up in Futureshop etc.

...when your list of favorites on your shortcut bar are all for HT forums, audiogon and rotel's home page

...when you know what DTS, DD, NTSC, PAL,SACD,DVD-A, THX, PCM, 16:9 all mean

...when you are told to come up with an alpha-numeric password and THX1138 is the first thing that comes to mind

...when you know why the volume number displayed is negative and it goes down while the volume get louder

...when you convieniently forget there's a jurassic park 2 in the series

...when you consider "Pan and Scan" a 4 letter word

      Guess I'm a HT Geek

When you are happy for other members buying a better piece of equipment than yours and want them to compare it to yours.

When your wife doesn't understand what's the big deal.

              Jon,
I don't have one yet. How about $500 for the old CRT projector? ops:

...when you justify your purchase of DVD's by saying it's cheaper than going to the movies.Even though you've spent enough money on gear and DVD's to go to a lifetime of movies.(if that makes any sense) :T

..... when you think 'cool thread I'd better post on this one'.

..... when you can post on this thread, admit to outrageous things, and not be embarassed.

..... when you visit the forum 3 times in one day to see what is happening and read this thread.

...... when you can play a whole track just so you can say "see how much the definition improved on that deep bass note / subtle sound / etc.

...... when you wish DTS or Dolby would come up with a new format just so you could upgrade some more.

...... when you worry about convergence problems in the TV so minor you need to spend 10 minutes explaining to the technition so that they can see.

...... when you don't like visiting the movies unless you can very carefully pick your cinema becuase the sound is just so much better at home.

...... when the best thing you notice about a new DVD release is the quality of the rear effects placement.

...... when you are already anticipating the next upgrade before you have had the previous one delivered.

...... when you know the names of the salemen at several HT stores and they know and welcome you by name.

...... when you want to build an new home and move to gt a better dedicated HT room.

...... when the thought of buying an extra copy of a DVD jut to get that special edition, remixed DTS sound track excites you.

...... when your cable box of "spares" is woth more than most peoples department store stereo or HT systems.

...... when you read about some obscure tweak and keep wondering if that could "make a difference" in your system.

...... when you actually understand, care about and start looking out for things like 3/4 pull down erors or deinterlacing bugs.

...... when the release of a new DVD player to replace your perfectly good 1 year old DVD player is something that you await with eager anticipation and follow with great interest in the web forums.

Bottom line though - take out all the "technical quirks" and it's just like being obsessed with Football / Cricket / Hockey / Baseball or whatever and knowing all the players names and form etc in every team, following matches between two teams you don't even support support, getting red faced and angry about the decision of an umpire...

                              We are alright really....

Mind you it is easer to pick up a conversation about sport than HT ....

                              Now where is that

...when you tell your wife you have to take the speaker in for repair, you come home with a different one (or bigger), and swear it is the same one

...when you do the above (and she really noticed a nuance about the speaker --- you're busted) and you tell your wife it is irreparable and this was the manufacturer's replacement!

So, I'm thinking of doing the same as a friend of mine back in the late 80's did, putting one into a bedroom system.... pretty evil, huh?
