    Question about projector tech advances

I'm 14 and plan to go to a 4-year college. My projector seems like it will need a bulb in a while, but I'd rather upgrade my projector than shell 350 out for a 100:1 contrast projector with an s-video connector. Next summer I'll be able to get a "real" job" and will have a decent amount of cash flow. I'd be looking at getting a projector for around 1000 dollars, preferrably used with a replacement bulb with no hours or a low-hour projector. What do you think I'll be able to get for 1000 dollars by say, next July? My requirements are LCD, 600:1 contrast(perferably higher), good bulb life, an eco-mode(longer bulb life), 1080i or 720p, and good lumen rating (600 or more). Is this too much to ask for in a 1000 dollar projector?

Onto another part, should I get a projector when I get a job in the first place? I'm mainly asking this to college students... do you have good use out of your projector or do you not have time to watch it? I'm wondering if I should just save money and use it to treat myself to completing 4 years of college.
Does anyone think I can get a used Z4 with low bulb hours used on ebay for around 1000 next summer? I'd be willing to go up if nesseccary.

No, I don't think you'd be able to get a Z4 for that amount. Possibly a Z3 or Panasonic AE700.

Personally, my humble recommendation would be save the money at your point in the world of HT, and then go big(ger) once you graduate.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

sorry, I meant Z3. I have an apex TV 27"(not great quality, but works) that I'll use until I finish college. I was leaning more towards saving up until after college, but wasn't sure if there was going to be a slow spot in HD/projectors for a while.

Well, the Panasonic AE900 new is $1599 today at Costco, with $400 in Blockbuster rentals. I would think $1000 for the Z4 by next summer is not unrealistic. 8O

        Just my two cents.

I have a Sony VPL-AW15 projector (and I have had no serious complaints in 2.5 years--a few very minor quibbles, but only because no display is perfect) and a few days ago (just as we had settled the kids into the HT for a family viewing of Up on BD), I turned on the projector, selected the PS3 for BD...

          Projector confusion

I currently own an Hitachi PJ-TX100 projector. I paid $1000.00 new about 2 years ago. Now I see it on ebay selling for less than $200.00. I can't believe its basically worthless. I only used mine 4 hours before I had to move. Im currently moving into a home with a basement and contemplated purchasing...

New or used pretty good projector for under 1000 bucks?
          by Hdale85
I'm looking for a decent projector that does at least 480P, I'd prefer 720P if possible but not so sure about that one. I dont care if its a newer or older projector and it can even be used off ebay or anything like that. I was looking at the Sony HS-10 I see a couple that go for cheaper but most of...
