My g/f would like a DVR or PVR for Xmas with no monthly fees. HD would be nice since I/we mainly watch HD. Also, are their any significant differences between DVRs and PVRs? Thx.

DVR and PVR are the same. Just a slightly different name.
What does your grandfather have; cable, antenna, satellite? If it's just an antenna he could get this.
If he has cable or satellite then I don't know of anything he could get that doesn't have a fee of some sort. That is unless you can find one of these somewhere.

OK, I recently moved my computer into the same room as my HT system. I have no interest in getting into HTPC proper, but I would really like to be able to use my computer as a PVR, so I can stop using my SVHS deck.

Voom is really makin' some noise in the satellite world. Especially in the HD area as they are now up to 37 HD channels (21 of those exclusive to VOOM) and have more on the way in June.
We've posted a little on this in the past but they haven't had much offering up until recently....-

by maseline_98What are my options to get rid of crapcast? It's been awhile(and I mean about 5+ years) since I put together a machine so I'm a little rusty. I don't know what's out there and what I would need to build a nice machine? Any idea? I have about $400 to spend on something(would prefer that I can record... - Loading...
