Just getting into lazerdiscs and not sure how to operate it.I was looking for a picture of the hook up.Or do I really need it to get AC-3 with the reciever I have....Thanks in advance....Dave

Huh... well, we wouldn't be doing our jobs if we didn't ask if you've been to Marantz's website already, and done a search. Many manufacturers have literature stored there.
As far as AC-3, laserdiscs were the birthplace of it, so I can't say for sure without knowing that particular model. Do you already have the unit? What does it have on the back panel?

The DP-870 is a full demodulator/decoder. It outputs 5.1 analog audio, so you do not need to have a DD decoder connected. You need to feed the DP-870 with the AC-3RF signal from a suitably equipped laserdisc player. If your LD player does not have such an output, it can be added, but it's not easy.Comment

Once upon a time in America.....oopps, that was a James Woods movie....the big companies all had a nice performing AC3 decoder. What if HK made a 7.1 dd/dts decoder with the following features and listed it at $700 retail (ie, $500 street NIB):
- 6.1 DTS-ES
- DD-EX
- DPL2 (5/6/7... -

I know this is "old school" but anyone using this prossessor with the DTS upgrade? I'm using the DP870 with a Yamaha RX-V3000 in the bedroom. Major difference in sound when I A/B Dolbly Digital DVD/ HDTV shows. There's a DP870 with msb dts upgrade on sale on audiogon.... -

Would it be better to use the DD/DTS decoder in the Panasonic RP 91 DVD player and go into the RDC-7 using its analog inputs or using the the digital input on the RDC-7 and use the RDC-7's DD/DTS decoder?
All other things being equal, the decoder in the dvd player would be more convenient....
