HT setup with out the sub?

Just wondering if any one has tryed or at least what they think of having no sub. I recently added 2ch amp. and set my fronts to large (while having sub off) and was pleasantly surpriced on how well it sounded.
Now wondering if front and back would be large speakers with proper amp.s and enuph power, how well would it work?

Depends on the sub, really. If it's not up to the job in the first place then I'd leave it. If it's a halfway decent sub I'd have it, no question.

To me, the difference the sub makes is in feeling the movie/music, more than just hearing it. I recently sold my sub (due to a move), and while I enjoy my system as it is (all set to large), there is definitely something missing. The other side of it is the load on your amp; when you set the speakers to Small and use a sub, the amp is not being worked as hard, and will usually produce cleaner sound in the higher ranges. Subs definitely serve a purpose, and the task should be left them whenever possible (IMHO).

An accuurate subwoofer will enhance the experience. I use smallish mains and surrounds, so it's part of the frequency response of the system, I rolloff at 100hz....plus...I gotta have 'em.

at times with sub it doesn't seem to in synergy. It almost sounds like little too later or too hard and not hard enuph, but once speakers were set to large it was lilke wow it works very well (not as strong or as powerfull). I'm still playing with setup and placemant of the sub, will see.

Sounds like a room/setup/sub problem. Sometimes a sub can reveal room issues that the mains, having less bass/extension, won't.

              by SQconstable
:T Why aren't there more people doing the DIY with larger woofers? I know cost is an issue but it seems like the largest driver that most people are using are 8", which is NOT going to truly play that low-freq subbass. I've read many posts where people are so confident, that for stereo listening,...

              Large.. Dual 15" RL-p Unit
              by steve nn
What I'm looking at doing is building a dual driver 15" SS RL-p tuned to 16.2 Hz. This is going to come in pretty large at 20.8 cu ft with needing to net 18.3 cu ft after factoring. I'll be pushing each driver with 750 watts with the EP2500. I'm definitely going to have to pick up a few more clamps...

M&K Sub with Rotel 1052 - Not much bass?
              by Club1820
Hello everyone. Would appreciate some help. I recently purchased a M&K Sub VX-860SF 250 Watts used on Audiogon. The sub was originally purchased in Nov 05' so its pretty much new. I looks beautiful (Cherry Veneer) and does in fact look brand new. I hooked it up last night to my 1052 and was...

              Sub with B&W 803s?
              by b&Wman
I'm planning on getting the new B&W 803S when they come out. Currently, I'm using CDM 1NT's as mains coupled with a sub. I'm sure the 803S will sound much better than the CDM 1NTs when I get them. I'm using a much cheaper sub (Polk PSW 650) which is fine for movies but not great for music. Due...
