Title says it all. Couldn't resist the price (80$) for the A3. I was planning to get a regular DVD player soon (a bit of re-arranging of gear was going to leave an SDTV without a DVD player) but for the price, I got an SD player, a future HD player for the upgraded display (down the line), a back up for my other HD DVD player (so the risk that my discs will become "coasters" is diminished), the ability to play HD DVDs elsewhere than the main system on my front projector (a lot of extras are SD anyway), two movies I didn't have but wanted and a spare HDMI cable. Can't really go wrong with that. :T
Bought two HD DVDs and an HDMI cable, got a free HD DVD player

I have a feeling a lot of these deals are going to be coming out soon, as companies want to get rid of their HD-DVD players. tigerdirect was selling one for 89 bucks with (i think) 7 free hd-dvds. I was considering the same thing, as the cost of an upscaling dvd player is equal or more than that. Yet, I also think the cost of these players are going to drop a lot more, and you are going to be able to get HD-DVD's pretty cheap. In all reality, they are only good as an upscaling DVD player anymore... but, hey. I'll take one if I find it for under $50 or 60.- Bottom

I was planning to wait until it hit the 50$ mark, but with the free cable (while I found a good online source for HDMI cables, it remains common to see a 6 foot length go for 40-50$) and the two Bourne movies (first two--was planning to pick them up anyway), I felt it was worth getting now rather than risking putting it off until nothing was available. Also, I was planning to pick up an SD player for around 80-100$ in April anyway (waiting for the snow to melt to rearrange all the furniture (some has to go out the side door and back in through the rear deck door--currently blocked by almost 3 feet of snow) which will free up the TV I mentioned above).- Bottom

Certainly a good way to view it. I saw it a bit differently, but I already had an HD DVD player with about 45 titles--so I saw it more as a back up. But your approach is a worthy one, considering the SD players that upscale (and, according to reviews, not as well) were the same price or more in the same store.- Bottom

by Chris DWell, I've reached a new level of craziness. I just bought my first three DVD-A albums, but still don't own a DVD-A or SACD player. (sigh) By signing up for Silverline Records' newsletter, they sent me a free DVD-A sampler, and a Best Buy coupon. You could get $2 off Silverline DVD-A albums, up to a...-
