I'm a bit interested in how the ERC-1 would do against something like the Azur 840c. The ERC-1 uses higher end Burr Brown DAC's.

It's so tiny though... I don't know I wont say which way I'm going until I see the spec's of the XMC-1. I know I'm probably getting 2 XPA-1's and either the UMC or XMC.

Dougie I love the size . I'm on both pre-order lists, will probably actually buy both and sell the UMC once the XMC comes out.

Yeah Chuck, I've thought of doing that. It would be pretty easy to get close to the 700 original price I'd imagine in a few months when the XMC comes out.

Well I just found out that the new ERC-1 uses the Analog Devices AD1955 DAC's. Which is the same DAC's that the 840c uses. This makes things quite interesting especially at the 399 price point.

I believe the 840c uses dual AD1955's (plus an upsampler). Does the ERC-1 use a single AD1955?

I'm not sure yet I contacted Lonnie asking about it. And it uses an upsampler as well the same rate 384khz. So they are rather similar in spec.

Ok I got an answer from Lonnie. He said it uses a single DAC but the way he was saying it sounds like its an 8 channel DAC and 4 outputs go to one channel and then the other 4 to the second channel. For something like 1/3rd the price of the 840c I bet they come quite close. I'd venture to wonder if you'd hear much of a difference at all between the single and dual DAC's. When I built my dual mono WM8740 DAC when I added the second DAC it wasn't a very noticeable difference.

Yeah I'd say there is easily nothing that will compete with it for under 1k probably.

Course I'm thinking of having RAM modify the 840c, just working on the details of what the total cost will be.

But I doubt it will happen too quickly (look how long it took for me to get it) so we should be able to A/B them!

Welcome mate, I am debating to put off my purchase of the Electrocompaniet Nemo or Classé CA-M400 until I hear the Emotiva X1 amp 500w @8Ω and 1000w @4Ω that should be good? THe deal is too good to pass, so I will be patient for now

Well there are some other things that make those very special Like a fully differential and balanced design amongst some other things.

The ERC-1 is 399 the XPA-1 is going to be 999 not sure if that will go up after the initial release date. I know the UMC-1 will be going up a little in price eventually.

I might not be seeing it, but it doesn't appear there is a ground pin on the IEC connector on the amplifier....

Well the amps have built in protection circuits and what not including filtration and surge protection. So don't think a ground pin is needed also it helps keep out ground loops and what not.

I've got a friend that is needing a new amplifier and preamplifier. I might send him the link and the name of this company. Their stuff defiantly looks promising.

He lives in the middle of no where so that 30 day trial deal would be very nice for him.

There have been many amplifiers and other audio products over the past 35+ years that do not have a ground connection. A ground connection is not necessary on an amplifier or any other electrical equipment that is double-insulated. Such equipment is designed and manufactured to protect the user from being exposed to ground faults.
