    Integrated Amplifiers

When using an integrated amplifier in a home theater, what would one use to handle video switching, up converting, etc. Thx.

Which amp? Does it have a "HT passthrough" or similar function?

For video switching you could just plug all the devices into different inputs on the TV. For up converting you would either need an upconverting player or a video scaler.

Most receivers only do video switching. Only a handful of really expensive ones will actually manipulate the video signal in any way,

One that I'm looking at is the Cambridge 840A. I don't think it has 'HT Pass through'.

That sort of information on the specifications would be nice hey!!!!
............and what exactly is "Patent pending proprietary XD technology".

In around 1980 we had a Ford Falcon XD in Australia. That was yonks ago mate. XD was easily surpassed by the XE XF etc etc.

Cambridge Audio may be producing giant killer components these days but they are yet to sound like a serious audio company in their marketing blurb.

Indeed. So, is cambridge one of those companies to really consider for quality low-priced hi-fi equipment?

By reputation I would say yes, or at least they are well worth an audition. I would steer clear of their music servers but otherwise they have a reputation for being at the leading edge in their price bracket.

If you were in Australia I would say be careful about their importer. Getting decent service on the importers other product lines (REL subs) has been a bit like pulling teeth - they have ignored many of my emails requesting assistance.

The Cambridge Azur 840A is an excellent integrated amp. The Azur series is a well known, well repsected and well reviewed series line. And Cambridge is a well respected audio company.

The 840A like all integrated amp is meant for stereo sound and only has stereo inputs.

If you need something for HT, then buy a receiver that does everything or separate preamp/amp combinations.

I would recommend a quality receiver as well. That is key for a solid HT.

RVE 1060 Video Scaler worth investing?
                    by sarsi
I saw RVE 1060 video scaler (but only up to 1080i and only with 1 HDMI output) at my dealer place, I was wondering whether is it worth investing to enhance and renew to my RSP1098 (which I absolute adore)?

Apparently, it can fully integrated with RSP1098 via the RS232 ports between the...

                    by alphaGeek
                    Hello,
Thanks to reading your forum for the past few days, I pulled the trigger and purchased my 1066 yesterday. Whee!

I have a boat-load of questions, but here is my first:

Do you recommend that I use the 1066 for video switching?

                    I have:
