Does anyone have a Sony LCD XBR2 or 3 TV? One of the HDMI inputs on the TV also has an analog audio input which is normally used when you have a device that only has a DVI output. I have RCA cables run to it from my DVD player, but I cannot get any sound from it. I know the issue is the TV and not the DVD layer because sound is leaving the DVD player. Is there a setting I'm missing?

It shouldn't affect the signal, but I am not certain since I don't own a Sony TV. I would contact Sony tech support about the HDMI issue, and determine if there is a firmware upgrade available to correct your sound issue or a capatibility issue with your DVD player, that's where I would start. Also, just to cover your bases check the sound menu of your Sony TV and the trouble-shooting guide in your manual. Sometimes the most simple things are overlooked.Originally posted by abe1877Yes. If I set it to PCM, I receive audio from the HDMI cable. Obviously, when set to bitstream, I do not. This shouldn't effect the signal from the analog audio cable, right?
Peace and blessings,

Without knowing the products, I would assume that when ANY audio signal is detected on the HDMI cable it will disable the analog inputs.
Can you disable the sound output over HDMI? I'm guessing regular digital is running to a receiver, HDMI for video to the TV, but analog as well for the wife/kids?
If this winds up being the case, you can always convert it to DVI, then back to HDMI. This will remove the audio signal from the HDMI cable.

I have 2 reasons for running the analog audio to the TV: 1) Foremost, I want to avoid having to change the audio output on the DVD from PCM to/from bitstream if I just want to listen from the TV without the receiver on. If the receiver is on I obviously want it in digital format. 2) If it is on bitstream I cannot use my wireless headphones which are connected to the TVs sound output. I would connect to my rotel receiver by it doesnt have a DAC.
I do not see any option to disable HDMI audio...just when you set to bitstream. I did not think about concerting to and from DVI. That's an interesting and simple solution!!!!
I am probably making thingd considerbaly more difficult than they need to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS - I've been going back and forth with Sony's tech support. If an HDMI cable is connected to an HDMI source it will disable the analog audio, but I tried to just connect the analog audio cables and I still received no sound (just as a test). According to Sony, this should not happen.
Analog audio is transmitted regardless of what the audio output is set to on the DVD player. I tested this. You would think the TV should be smart enough to know whether or not audio is being transmitted throught the HDMI cables if it can tell what type of source you are connected (DVI or HDMI). According to Sony, it can tell this. They said to call their tech support to futher troubleshoot which I have not done yet.- Bottom

by Chris DI thought I'd post this to help out those who have taken the plunge into HD-DVD and/or Blu-Ray, to understand the BASICS of the new HD audio formats that it includes.
The question is, when I pop in a new HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, when I get to the main menu, I've got a choice of several different...-

by bigburnerYou may have read my review of the “Transatlantic Sessions 5” DVD elsewhere in this forum. I enjoyed that DVD so much I wanted to get another one in the series. I decided on “Transatlantic Sessions 2” but was put off when I read that the only audio track on it is Dolby Digital 2.0 /192kbps (Sessions...-

by jazznsoccerOk - I've looked at DVD players and the best one out there seems to be the Denon 5900. However, this DVD player seems to be so good that I should bypass all of my pre/pro circuitry and just analog bypass on to my amp. Now the question is why should I buy a high end pre/pro (such as Rotel 1098) to go...-

by rlcramerI am about to purchase an Outlaw Audio Receiver that does DVI switching. My thought is that if I get an upconverting DVD player and use an HDMI to DVI cable to get the video signal from the DVD player to the receiver, and use an optical cable to get the audio from the DVD player to the receiver. Does...-

by BluespowerI know this topic has been beaten to death but I really wouldn't mind hearing a few recommendations as I begin my quest (again). I'm in the market for a DVD/DVD-A player with audio quality being the prime consideration (a "universal" player with SACD could be considered even though I don't...-
