Hi, spend most of my time over on the DIY forum, but I would like to upgrade my reciever. I have a Onkyo HT-R500 or something like that, and it really seems to lack. I was just wondering what some of you reccomend for brands that are good. I thought Onkyo was good but maybe I just got a bad one or something. Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo, any clear favorites? Ive located a decent Yamaha but dont know much about Yamaha stuff. Thanks.

You need to give us a little more info.
What is your budget?
I assume your doing HT 5.1?
Do you some type of base management for a sub?
Are your speakers high impedance, <4ohom?
There's lots of good stuff out there on the used market, too, at places like audiogon.com. -
Well for now I would really like to keep it in the less then 500 dollar range. For now 5.1 and will likley upgrade when the new formats get a little more solid. I have a DIY Dayton HF with a Dayton 240 w plate amp and right now my speakers are 8 ohm Polk Audio, but I will likely soon upgrade in the next year or two.Comment

The Onkyo TX SR605 and it is also HDMI 1.3 compliant, it should be able to tide you over. This is what I would personally recommend at present, with your budget.
