Audio system for video and gaming and some music

When I was last really looking at speakers several years ago I fell in love with the B&W 703's to replace my old Dalquists. I never bought them and instead used the money to help pay for grad school. Now that I am free, life has changed and music listening has gone down to maybe 10% of my time while TV is 65% and video games is 25%. I am looking to put together a good system that can do all of the above... Would 703's still be a good choice or is this just crazy? Thoughts?

What would be your recomendations on a "good" system to handel lots of different styles of audio needs?- we have DirectTV HD, XBOX 360 with HDDVD, PS3 with blueray, a Wii, Sirius, DVDs, ipod, and CDs Everything is in the living room and we rent so there will be nothing built in. Willing to spend arround $10K (less is better) on the audio portion. New 1080p to replace my 'old' 1080i will come soon enough.

    703s are great speakers reguardless!

You could also look at the new 600 series B&Ws which is very close to the quality of the 700 series and get a new(er) speaker.

Just because you don't listen to music as much now, who is to say you won't in another year or so...and then you'll WISH you had bought some good speakers!

You should be able to afford a nice Rotel setup as well with those speakers and easily stay under your 10K budget. :T

x2...600 series would sound great and save a little bit of dough as well.

Good speakers are good speakers IMHO. I don't tend to buy into the "music speakers" vs "HT speakers" issue. Good speakers should accurately produce the signal sent to them

I beg to differ, some speakers are better for Music than HT, direct firing vs Bipolar speakers is an example. What I tried to do was achieve a compromise, with my speakers, but I am mostly a movie buff, who also enjoys good music every now and then. Most certainly your mileage may vary.

Your current budget should allow you to compromise as well, just be certain that you listen to your speaker choice, with a 10K budget you should be able to find your acoustical niche.

I have much of the same gear that you have, you may want to consider some DefTech speakers (esp. the Mythos series), B&Ws are great, but I think the DefTechs will provide what you need without breaking the bank.

Just my quick thoughts, happy hunting.

          Peace and blessings,

          Azeke

              Just ordered some 703s!
              by wgriel
I think I have to blame perla4u for his "Worried new B&W owner thread"

I have been in the B&W family for a couple of years now, with a pair of 603 S3s in my main 2 channel setup and a pair of 600 S3s in the kitchen.

I was thinking that It might be...

              Trading in 704s for 703s
              by mrpotto
Ok, so here's what I've decided to do. I'm trading my 704s in for 703s (I have a deal with a local dealer where I get to apply purchase price of 704s towards the 703s so it will be about $800 out of pocket to do so). For now I plan to keep my HTM7 center (I've read on some audio forums that the HTM&...

              Amp audition for 703s
              by wgriel
Well, I just got back from a dealer where I spent about 2 hours auditioning a couple of integrated amps for my 703s.

At the moment, I've got my 703s hooked up to a Rotel RX-1052 which does sound very good, but I know I can get more out of the speakers.

              I am contemplating...

              Thinking of upgrading - 703s or 805s?
              by jack667
              Hi guys,

I'm thinking of upgrading my speakers and I was wondering what your thoughts are on the 805s and 703s.

I haven't heard either speaker yet, but I can tell you that my listening room for now is only 9' x 12' .

I listen to a wide variety of music, and...
