New lower priced Blu-Ray and HD DVD

I just saw where a couple companies are doing a lower priced second gen player packaged with 5 DVDs. The Toshiba HD-A2 is a $300 HD DVD player that has a 5 DVD mail in offer. I think the new Samsungs have a second gen player at the $500 - $600 range with 5 movies. I now think I can buy one of each all stop caring who wins the format war.

People are ordering thousands of Toshiba HD A2s. A bunch of people are getting the Toshiba HD A2 for $237.88 from Amazon.

Are the less expensive players as good (video quality) as the more expensive first generation? I'd like to see a head-to-head comparison.

I just ended up buying the 360 HD-DVD player at BB $200.00. You get an additional 2 HD DVD movies for free, that's 3 movies including King Kong which is already inside the box (sale ends Saturday). This will work for me until the HD wars have subsided.

This war will probably become a moot point since the internet will allow the downloading of HD content directly to my TV, point and click.
